A PRAYER ANSWERED

"I'm hungry, mama." The boy's eyes were hollowed.

"I'm sorry, sweetheart. The cupboard is bare."

"Can we pray, mama?"

"Yes, sweet child. Let's."

They petitioned the Lord with tears.

ding, dong

"Excuse me, Ma'am, but would you care for this pizza? God told me to deliver it."

JEWISH JOANNE

Jewish Joanne, unbiased reporter, covers a Christian women's conference. The attendees' peace and joy moves her to read the Bible through - in three weeks. She has many questions, so she gets churched and mentored.

After several months, Joanne rereads "by His wounds we are healed."

Jewish Joanne is healed.

RELIEF FOR THE WEARY

"I'm so tired, Harold."

Harold rubs Agnes' back. "I know. It's time to stop dwelling. Just let it go."

"Let it go?"

"I have. It's your turn now."

Agnes kneels. "Lord, I'm through with the guilt. Forgive me for my unfaithfulness to Harold. In Your name. Amen."

Peace returns.

FEAR CONQUERED

"I'm afraid, Pa."

"I'm right here, John. You can do it."

"What if I can't?"

"You can."

"But what if I can't?"

Pa smiled. "I'll be here to catch you."

John eases onto his bicycle, sans training wheels.

John smiles. Pa is by his side. John's feet touch the pedals.

THE SCRUNCHY CHALLENGE

"Write a complete story in 50 words or less," Deb challenges.

"You're kidding, right? I have enough trouble with 750."

"It will be a good stretch, or scrunch, for you," Deb counters.

I pray.

God's inspiration comes upon me.

Stories flow like water.

I am scrunched.

Thank you Joanne for your encouragement. I clicked onto your very short stories; they are brilliant! have you thought or attempted to develop any of them into full length stories?
Kind regards

This would make a great writing workshop! Reminds me of the improv challenge in drama class. I HATED it! Of course, only a very talented writer could pull this off! I loved the creative titles on each little tale and especially your ending....my comment is even longer than your stories! 51 words :)

Of course I love the last one. I also really enjoyed your personal Jewish Joanne one because it is YOU! Amazing you could fit it in those few words, but how cool that it does boil down to that simple of a message.

I LOVE "Relief for the Weary"...I did NOT see that coming.

The rest were very good as well.

THE SCRUNCHY CHALLENGE was a good way to describe a whole tribe of writers in 50 words! When my husband heard about the short stories, he was amazed. He's not a writer and can't visualize coming up with one story idea. He said we are dripping with talent. Way to go, Joanne!

My favorite is Fear Conquered. I can't tell you how many times I've taken that first step because my Father was right by my side.

Now I'm trying to teach my own children the same thing. Well done Joanne (as usual :) ).

Joanne, these are FANTASTIC! I like your testimony the best--I'd picked up bits and pieces of it here and there, but this teensy summary is just the bee's knees. And the last one is a hoot, too!
Verna Cole Mitchell

I enjoyed all five, but "Fear Conquered was my favorite." You did it, and you did it well!

My favorite is number 5. I loved number 2 too, though I know that story and find it moving. But, the last one said it all, just give it to God - the rest is easy.

Hey...you "scrunch" just fine! I have't heard your testimony, but in those few words can draw lots of conclusions. Well done.
