A Mill Town Farmer Who Could Bargain
Not For Sale
Author requests article critique
For my jewish friend, Milton, whose name means mill town, a farmer, and boy, could he bargain! I hope all goes well with you, Milt. But I'm not leaving you here alone, Our God is taking you home. Everytime I look up at the stars I will think of you. When I catch up to you, then the pieces missing will fit again.
You are my soul's missing piece,
Your death did matter
so walk with me from
mourning to morning,
from pain and sadness
to life of joy and hope
Your death is more than physical
I set my heart with a right intent
To respect you,
In reverence and humility
You will always be a redeeming blessing
Now I pray to Our Creator
For you and for me
May things go well for you
As you travel to the holy place
This stark contrast
of life and death
I see its power
and I see God's
He created your living soul
And God has only the right
To say when life ends and begins
I see a veil with a shadow
In grief, my thoughts bear little
familiarity of reality of death.
I see the boundaries
piercing me through.
Your body in death is cold,
You have been readied to enter
a new world with lovingkindness.
I sing comfort in this sacred space
Forgive me my friend,
If I have disrespected you in anyway,
We will not pass again here
But I will meet you up ahead.
Looking at you now
I see a child that you were
Time and space erased in this room
I must go back to the mundane world
You must continue to the holy place.
This vigil is closing
You are wrapped in a prayer shawl
A prayer closet with God whispering
And I must wait, but am comforted.
I know the way
To My God and King
I raise my friend to You, Almighty, Holy One,
Blessed is He Who makes peace with You
My God, My King
Help me place my friend in the wooden ark
bear him up, carry him,
To lay him peacefully in his grave,
Facing east to Jerusalem.
Just as he is concealed in linen cloth,
I see You, Jesus,
wrapped in linen,
hidden for three days,
raised in resurrection,
a gift of eternal life.
Raise him up, Lord
To Your Glory
Thank you, Lord
For bringing us through this season
and sustaining us
Help us with what we can and cannot understand
Give us strength to recite this prayer.
I don't leave him alone,
I leave him with You, Lord
I trust You to take over his care
Though I go in sadness,
I will in time rejoice in gladness
For you and I, my dear friend
will be raised up to everlasting life with our Lord.
