A scripture to help you focus on your Christian life. Meditate and pray on this verse from the Bible and see how it applies to your life, or how you should apply it. Ask the Lord for revelation and understanding on the scriptures and He will grant your request.
“Father of orphans, champion of widows, is God in his holy house” Psalms 68:5 The Message.
You may have heard this scripture more often in the King James version rather than in The Message version, but The Message says it loud and clear. Here is the original:
“A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His holy habitation” Psalms 68:5 NKJV.
A father to the fatherless, a defender, and a champion of widows. Hallelujah! God is an awesome God!
Not only is the verse comforting and reassuring to those who have lost a spouse, but also to those who have lost a father, or never knew theirs. God is your Father. Allow him to comfort you in His strong and loving arms when your heart aches for your dad this Father’s Day and everyday that you feel that empty space inside you. Everyday that you want to talk to your dad, go fishing with your dad, or even yell at him for not being here for you when you need him. Let God step in and take his place.
I took my kids shopping yesterday for a Father’s Day gift and card for my husband, they also picked out a card for their grandpa, my husband’s father. I kept reading all the wonderful cards-some of them really have a way of spilling your heart out for you-and I couldn’t help but wish that I could present my dad with a father’s day card as well.
He went to live with the Lord many years ago, but it still feels like yesterday. I still ache for him to laugh at my stupid jokes, to pull on my ponytail, and to call me sissy, one of his nicknames for me. And yes, I still cry when I feel that empty spot in my heart. But I am so thankful to know it is there-to have an empty spot-to have had such a loving and wonderful dad that I will never stop missing him.
Those moments when I ache, when the tears burn my cheeks, I just have to allow the love of God to fill my soul, and His arms to cradle and comfort me. After all, He is father to me--the fatherless.
Thank you Lord for being our father, for adopting us into your holy, heavenly family. And for protecting the widows.
Have you hugged your father today? Allow God to be your father, whether you are fatherless or not. He loves you and wants to adopt you into his loving family. What is this scripture saying to you?
