My dear special first child,
I remember when I was a girl, I had my days of running around the house with my siblings, and then there were the days when it was books and television.
I remember when I started elementary school, I hated it! I preferred home where I could play without any serious responsibilities.
I remember entering boarding school; it was a period where my life was uniquely shaped. By the time I was leaving, I had a purpose, a vision and a mission along with several academic awards.
I remember my first year in college. The world was a mad place. My idea of serenity was seriously tampered with. It seemed there was too much freedom for people who still needed plenty of guidance in life.
I remember my first day at work, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I was surrounded by people who knew that life wasn’t all about work.
I remember when I met your father. He was one of the greatest surprises of my life. He still is.
I remember seeing you in a divine dream before I began carrying you. You looked beautiful, healthy and strong. I was singing an amazing lullaby and you slept sweetly in my arms. I knew we were going to meet but I didn’t know it would be this soon. God knows how to bestow grace and peace upon His children.
I remember the night you were conceived. Oh! I cried in pain for I had never known any man before. Your father succeeded in calming me and made wonderful promises which he has kept.
I remember your first three months in me, I had a hard time adjusting to you being there; but it wasn’t your fault, sometimes, the best things come in strange ways.
I remember the first time I saw you through a scan. You moved like an acrobat. You are so active! It’s hard not to wonder if you’ll be a great athlete someday…well, that would be from your father. I don’t have half as much athletic or physical energy like your dad does.
I remember as the months passed by, everyone who saw you through me loved you. Everyone did something for you to make you comfortable, satisfied and most especially, special. You’ve even started receiving gifts from those who love you.
I remember the other day when your father picked me from work. He said “sweetie, I went shopping for our baby today, there are a few things I want you to see so we can pick up all the items over the weekend.” I think it’s a blessed thing to have a home waiting for you before you arrive.
I remember my last visit to the doctor. He said “madam, your baby is 34 weeks.” We have about 3 to 6 weeks to see each other face to face. We both can’t wait…yes I know.
I remember seeing you again occupying my tummy, taking as much space as you wish much to my discomfort. You’re allowed my dear one. A mother is never tired of giving to her child.
I remember reading a book about you and your coming. It said your major activity during your 34th week is to tip your head downwards in readiness to arrive.
I remember telling you “did you hear that? You’re to tip your head downwards now. That’s your major activity.”
I remember you answering me as though you saluted and said “Yes mam!”
Oh did I laugh…you are a joy and pride to me, you are an answered prayer, a vision fulfilled, and a dream come true. Actually, my love, you are a lot of things to me, but most importantly, my dear sweet one, you are a gift from heaven.
I love you.
