My mother was raised in the country and when you live in the country you can become exposed to many dangers. One day my mother wanted to go to the school yard and play. When she asked her mother if she could go to the school yard, her mother said no. Well instead of obeying her she went and got her little brother, Bill, and went to the school yard and played. Well it was getting dark so mom and my uncle started walking towards home. As they were walking mom didn't notice a copperhead snake that was on their path. Before she knew it the snake had bit her on her foot and she was barefooted. She picked up my uncle and carried him home so that he wouldn't get snake bit. When grandpa found out that mom got bit, he ran to her and began to suck the poison out of her wound with his mouth and then spit it out to the ground. Then he got a baby chick and cut it open so that the warmth of the chick's body would finish drawing the rest of the poison. The next day mom's leg swelled to four times it's average size. For weeks all she could do was hop. They couldn't get the swelling to go down until her uncle told grandpa to get a type of root and boil it and use it on her foot. The swelling finally went away, but mom had to learn the hard way, the penalty for disobedience. If she only had obeyed her mother in the first place, this never would have happened to her. In a spiritual sense, all of us had been bitten by the snake. God told Adam and Eve that you can eat of all the trees in the Garden of Eden, except for the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. For in the day that you eat of this tree you will die. Well the serpent tempted Adam and Eve and they disobeyed God by eating from the tree. Because of their disobedience God made them leave their lovely paradise and they began to age and eventually die. If they had only obeyed they could have stayed and enjoyed God's fellowship, but instead they got snake bit. The poisonous venom from Adam and Eve's bite came into our blood system. Unless something was done eternal death in hell was certain. Then one day the most precious of all baby chicks was killed it's body and blood was applied to our wound. His warmth drew out the poison so that we could live forever. God sent His Son, Jesus to die for us to destroy the snake's venom. Have you had His Blood applied to your wound? Have you been disobedient and in so doing you got bit by sin's snake? If so ask the Father to apply His Son's warmth to your wound? He loves you!
