Blessings from God’s Revelation
“Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near."
Revelation 1:3 NIV
Counting my blessings excites me, but more importantly, I believe that it delights the heart of God as I acknowledge His goodness and presence in my life.
One of the greatest blessings He has given me is the opportunity to open our home for Bible Study. After personal prayers and prayers from my sisters and brothers in Christ, we were able to overcome the many obstacles in the way, and started our small study group at home with our church’s Pastor leading. I want to make a correction though. The Holy Spirit is the One leading us through our Pastor.
I suggested to our Pastor that we begin our study from the Book of the Revelation because of God’s prompting in my heart that started last year, after the many calamities and chaos going on around the world. I resisted for awhile. I complained to God, “Lord, why are You asking me and why do you want to use my home? First, I have to tell my husband (who amazingly consented right away) invite people to attend, do a lot of preparation, etc.” But I learned that if it’s God’s will, He will make it happen. And I am so grateful that He did. I thank Him immeasurably for He has always been speaking in my heart in so many special ways ever since. I can not begin to tell you how.
At first, I was contemplating of what would happen before we started this Home Bible Study. I was thinking, “Okay, Revelation has 22 Chapters. That means 22 weeks of cooking soup, casseroles and other refreshments, cleaning the house, doing after care, calling and e-mailing people to attend. I think I can handle that.” Anyway, I told my husband, “I’m doing this for Jesus.” My husband was pleased when I said I was doing it for Jesus as I was washing the dishes and doing the after care one night, but I don’t know if it’s because he’s too tired to help me. I understand though, because after a long shift at work, he needs his rest. ( Really, Honey, I understand!)
Anyway, what’s happening is our Pastor likes to divide the lesson each week according to specific topic, like for example Chapter 2 alone took 4 weeks , which I am glad because we are learning better that way. But now at the 6th week of study, the “Martha” in me is troubled because I am running out of recipes (I am by the way not a very good cook, but learning.) The “Mary” in me though loves to sit and listen and soak on all the knowledge that I didn’t know before . I really feel God’s presence in our midst. I just wish I will be more like Mary than Martha though.
Revelation is not an easy book to study alone. I am so grateful for this opportunity to have this Bible Study with a group of some of the mature Christians and combined with our Pastor’s theological knowledge, as well as participation of some of us who still need to be fed with the Word. We are able to learn better, encourage one another and strengthen our faith and relationship with God. I learned that God’s messages of commendation and condemnation to the seven churches in 7 cities that represent the major centers of Christianity in the region of Asia (Modern Day Turkey)- Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea wasn’t just meant for these 7 churches but also for us individual believers. My goal and prayer in this study is not just to accumulate knowledge from the Bible, but also apply them in my life so that when Jesus Christ come back (which is anytime soon, I believe) I will be ready. This is the same prayer I have for each one attending our Bible Study and for the others who like to join us in the future.
Revelation is not a book to scare the readers. It’s a book about victory. Jesus Christ would be victorious over the forces of Satan and someday, He would reign forever and ever as King of Kings and Lord of lords. As our Pastor says, “Imagine what joy it will be if someday Jesus will meet you in Heaven, have His arms around your shoulder and tell you, “Well done my faithful servant!” Oh, what a joy it will be indeed!
Please continue to pray that we will all be ready
for the Day is near. Jesus Christ will come like "a thief in the night" and may He find us all faithful and complete in His sight. Amen!

Hey Gloria, nice move to have a regular small group meeting in your home. Christ and His words are above all else. Do not worry if you ran out of recipes (you can buy ready-made foods)or if the house is a little bit out of line. What matters most is your motive: to make use of your home as a venue of blessings for others. Christians in other countries, where Bible study isn't allowed, meet in inconvenient places just to savour His words. Let us not be sidetract. Let us focus on our purpose: to share His words to as people as possible while we are still alive. I'm blessed that your group is touching the book of Revelation.

Gloria, Indeed the time is near. We did a study of the Revelation last year and it was the first time that God really opened my eyes and heart to understand what He was saying to the church. Blessings. Thanks for your wisdom and insight and for obeying His Holy Spirit.

Victory in Jesus!!! Isn't great to know that we are on the winning side and that Jesus has already won? Beautiful article, my Sister. I know all too well the "Martha" worries. Praise God that the Holy Spirit ministered to you and let you desire to be more "Mary". God bless you and yours. In Christ's Love, Christian
