Faith
I'm reminded of a sister, whose name I do not know,
Scorned, cast out and ostracized for a never-ending flow.
An issue left her filthy and tormented her deep within
A touch of faith restored her and made her whole again.
***************************
This was it! The final straw! She just could not do this
any more!
She'd spent the last of her money, she'd seen every doctor,
undergone every test and treatment, and still ... she
continued to bleed. In fact, with each doctor's visit she
seemed to get progressively worse!
Twelve long years she'd been this way and none of the
experts had a clue about what to do for her. How could
they effectively treat her when they barely wanted to touch
her? After all, by all legal standards, she was unclean.
She needed someone that she could touch. Someone who
wouldn't shy away from her when she came near. Someone
who possessed so much love, that they would be moved by her
plight and driven to want to help her. She needed a
miracle ... she needed someone to come into her life who
could do what mortal man could not do.
And then it happened ...
She heard there was a man in town named Jesus who was
casting out demonic spirits, making the crippled walk,
and cared nothing about the uncleanliness of man for
He touched and healed even the lepers.
"If only I could get in the presence of such a man!", she
thought, "I know I will be made whole!" She set about
to find this man and when she did, He was engulfed by a
crowd. So much so that she could not even get a clear
view of Him.
"Just my luck", she thought, "I find someone who can
actually heal me and I can't even get close enough to see
Him, much less let Him touch me!"
She made her way towards that crowd of people who pressed
themselves upon Jesus, and with fierce determination she
began to force her way through. Enduring shoves, elbows
and the desperate cries of sick, desolate souls, she
finally made it to the place where she could see Jesus
passing by. Still, she could not reach Him.
Sighing in frustration but driven by determination she
continued to press her way through the crowd. But she had
to hurry, He was steadily passing by and in a short time,
she feared, He would be gone.
This was her big opportunity, and she wasn't going to blow
it. Like a bull ready to charge an enemy, she bent her
head down, braced herself and began to barrel through the
massive crowd of people with the force of a man. When she
reached the place where Jesus was, all she could see was
the back of Him, the hem of His garment trailing behind.
She could've given up. Most would have, but she remembered
all of the things she'd heard about Him. All of the
supernatural things He had done. She thought to herself,
"If this man is truly who I believe He is, then He won't
have to touch me ... I'll touch Him! Oh, if I may but touch
His garment, I shall be whole." (Matthew 9:21)
Leaning down, straining forward, reaching for Her Saviour --
her only source of hope -- she touched the border of His
garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
(Luke 8:44)
Although she did not touch His flesh, Jesus knew He had
been touched, for this touch was unique ... it was special.
There were all sorts of people touching the Master that day,
but there was something about this touch on His clothing
that got His attention. So much so that He asked the
question, "Who touched me? Somebody hath touched me: for I
perceive that virtue is gone out of me." (Luke 9:45-46)
Our sister with the issue had a touch that Jesus could feel
even though there was no contact with His skin. Her touch
made contact with His Spirit and caused power to be released
from Him. The touch from this bleeding woman was not the
typical touch of flesh ... it was a touch of faith.
Beloved, a deposit of faith enables us to withdraw just
what we need from the Lord, precisely when we need it.
Glory to the Lamb of God!!
FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD ...
"For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith
without works is dead also." (James 2:26)
I think there comes a time in all of our lives where we
pray for a blessing in faith, but make absolutely no movement
toward obtaining what we are believing God for. It's as though
we expect Him to just drop the blessing from the sky with
absolutely no effort on our part.
Now don't get me wrong, there have been times when
I've personally received a "fall out of the sky" type of blessing;
however, most of the time I have to take some sort of action in faith.
Something that shows the Lord that I truly believe Him to do exactly
what His word says He will do.
That's what our sister with the issue of blood did. She
sought her blessing out -- her faith propelled her to go
forward! She combined faith with action, her issue of blood
dried up and she was made whole (Matthew 9:22, Luke 8:47).
Jesus Himself told her, "thy FAITH hath made thee whole."
(Matthew 9:22, Luke 8:48).
Beloved, Faith touches Jesus! It draws Supernatural power
from the realm of the Spirit. Will you let your
opportunities for deliverance pass you by because you won't
reach out and touch the Master with your faith? We must
not sit on our faith ... we must take action BECAUSE OF IT!
In this very hour, it is encouraging to know that God's
love and power will resolve every issue, heal every
sickness, revive lives that are dead in sin and assuage
the pain of a wounded heart if we will simply touch Him with
our faith.
Be blessed!
