In this grand quest for love we seek,
Two hearts estranged that touch and greet,
The dawn of hope, the vow of love divine,
Till death us do part, a promise for all time.

The heat of romance cools in the day,
As the rush of life sweeps the flush away.
The love we longed to give, we now long to receive,
And all that is illusion is loss we soon must grieve.

Who is this stranger, who covered doubt with grace?
Our comforter of aloneness reveals another face.
We look at each other, unmasking only shame,
Selflessness we cast aside; this sin we bear the same.

We feel confused at what we hoped had been,
The greatest earthly triumph over sin.
This temporal love we held in highest esteem,
Gains eternal perspective as in God's love we glean.

All would be futile if lost in darkest hour,
But for His holy hand, strengthening by His power.
What wedded bliss pledged one-on-one,
Completes in perfect union, but only in the Son.

Some mock His glory, some never understand,
That three enjoined in one is love's forever band.
Silent hope speaking most quietly to our fears,
Makes strangers known, as Christ alone,
Grants love throughout the years.
