The long awaited day had finally arrived for Karolyn Matthews. A day she had been mentally preparing for over the past three years. Karolyn had been employed for thirty-one years with a wonderful company that she loved and today was her final day. She would be officially retired at 5pm. She had looked forward to this day for months so why did she feel all of these emotions. She loved her job, loved her co-workers, yet she knew that her Lord was leading her life in a different direction now. She and her husband had recently been ordained into the ministry and had begun a new church in their local hometown. There were many exciting things happening in their lives and she knew that God had many more things to come. She also knew she could come by this local business and see her friends at any time. So why was her heart about to explode? Karolyn knew that at 5pm she would no longer be the Manager of H.R. This was a position she had worked long and hard for, she was on staff and worked closely with the Manager of the business. She was respected and liked by her co-workers. Tomorrow who would she be? When she filled out forms and applications that asked for place of employment, what would she write? When meeting people for the first time, she knew a general question was, "What do you do, where do you work?" How would she reply? Who would she be tomorrow? What would happen at 8am when she was still at home while almost everyone she knew would be at work? Had she made a mistake?
The Spirit of the living God began to stir inside of her reminding her of all the plans and goals He had for her. He began to show her a picture of the quite times they could have together now because she would have more time for Him. He reminded her of the books He wanted her to write, the new friendships He wanted her to establish. He showed her a picture of the shut-ins and the sick that He wanted her to visit. Karolyn was reminded of the new church building He had told them to build and He reminded her of all the work that needed to be done in order for this to happen. The Holy Spirit told her again that He would never lead her down the wrong path and she could trust Him. Karolyn's identity crisis began to come to a close. She knew that her life would be different now, but it was going to be full of God's greatest plans for her. She could hardly wait for 5pm so her new life could begin.
