When He says Move the Stone
She looked at me with glassy eyes hiding behind the pain
My heart wrenched as I searched for a remnant of my little girl
Twisted and ravaged from the wages of sin I recognized death
As so many things transpired my minds eye could not fathom
That a difference could be made
She railed with obscenities screaming out from within
My little girl, I cried, where would it end?
I looked around and understood I was’nt alone
So many children ravaged by this substance
That numbed the pain, promised happiness and offered peace
But left them searching, empty and lashing-out.
I cried out to God reminding Him of His Word
Knowing that if Jesus would show up the scene would change.
But each day I watched destruction unfold
As sin pulled her deeper into its death grip
Why was Jesus delaying?
Hadn’t He heard my cry?
For He alone is the answer
For I am the resurrection, and the life: (1)
I stood on His Word not wanting to waiver
Knowing that even in death there was a reason and a purpose
But deep within wishing that He would just show up
Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou had been here (2)
All around I see caskets lowered into graves
Broken dreams – shattered hopes - failed marriages – children gone astray
The death rattle has intensified as it walks in to claim those that it would
Weary from the journey we loosen our grip
And stand over the grave recognizing death for what it is.
But in the last breath and on the fourth day
He appears on the scene
Jesus, the Beginning and the End; Lion of the Tribe of Judah; Bright and Morning Star
Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died (3)
At His feet crying out to the One that could have saved from death
A light in a dark world, the life in a dying generation
And then He ask
Where have you layed him? (4)
I tried to reason, explaining it had to be done
I had called for Him and waited four days
I had stood on His Word claiming every promise
But death walked in, taking those things that once had life.
He stands next to the grave. He weeps. Does He see it as we do?
Shattered dreams. Broken families. Hope lost. Failed promises. Addicted children. Wasted lives. Unanswered calls. Demolished marriages. Sickness. Hatred. Bitterness. Anger. Death personified.
Many standing around questioned
And some of them said, could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died? (5)
Or is there something deeper? Something more that He sees?
This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. (6)
If only we could see and believe - the grave is not the end
Take ye away the stone (7)
HE DOESN’T UNDERSTAND!
By this time he stinketh for he hath been dead four days (8)
But the giver of life is on the scene standing by the grave
Commanding me to remove the stone
To release the smell of death and destruction
Reminding me - He only asked me to believe
Said I unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? (9)
As He commanded I lifted the casket from the grave. I removed the stone.
I uncovered the brokenness. The shattered dreams, hopes, failures, sickness.
Death exposed. Unhealed wounds bound in grave clothes.
And then He spoke the words
The life giving words directly to death and destruction
LAZARUS, COME FORTH! (10)
And that which had been dead four days appeared
That which I had mourned for over stood before me
Shattered dreams. Broken families. Hope lost. Failed promises. Addicted children. Wasted lives. Unanswered calls. Demolished marriages. Sickness.
Bound in grave clothes from head to foot.
What I had buried
JESUS CALLED FORTH!
LOOSE HIM, AND LET HIM GO! (11)
The grave could not hold what I had once committed to the Lord
For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the Lord behold the earth; to hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death (12)
We bury the dead, He moves the Stones
On the fourth day Jesus may just ask you to remove the stone
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? (13)
