Encouragement
Children, Go ahead and share this with your mom and let her know how special she is. Moms, know even before you start to read this that you are special. There is no other mom like you.
If someone were to ask you who the greatest mother who ever lived was, what would be your answer? Mary, the mother of Jesus? Eve? Mother Theresa? Your mother? May 8, 2005 is Mother’s Day
Mom, we wish to honor you. Not just on your special day, but every day of every month!
It all began in the Garden of Eden with the first of the greatest mothers who ever lived. Her name as you know was Eve.
Genesis 3:20 The Man, known as Adam, named his wife Eve because she was the mother of all the living. (The Message)
And we all know what happened with Eve’s first sons Cain and Abel. Cain and Abel both brought an offering unto the Lord. While God accepted Abel’s offering, He did not accept Cain’s offering, because Cain brought the wrong kind of offering and attitude unto the Lord. So, in anger and jealousy, Cain tricked his brother Abel into going out into the fields where Cain killed his brother Abel in what became the first murder in history.
Now, it is obvious that Eve brought both her sons (and her later son Seth) up to know and honor God. But sin has a way of sneaking into a back door and no matter how hard a mother tries to raise their children up in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6), some children will still strike out on their own and travel down the wrong road in life. The fault of this lies not with the mother, but the child.
THE GREATEST MOTHERS WHO EVER LIVED:
1. Eve
2. Moses’ Mother
In Exodus chapters 1 and 2 we read that the king of Egypt had ordered that all boys born to Hebrew women be killed because he felt that the Israelites were becoming more powerful (and they were) than the Egyptians. So when Moses was born, his mother kept him hidden for three months until she could do it no longer without him being seen. When this was no longer an option, Moses’ mother put him into a basket made out of reeds and covered it with tar. Then she put him in the basket and placed it in the tall grass the edge of the Nile River. The baby’s older sister stood off at a distance to see what would happen to him.
About that time, one of Pharaoh's daughters came down to take a bath in the river, while her servant women walked along the riper bank. She saw the basket in the tall grass and sent one of the young women to pull it out of the water. When Pharaoh's daughter opened the basket, she saw the baby and felt sorry for him because he was crying. She said; “This must be one of the Hebrew babies.”
At once the baby’s older sister came up and asked; “Do you want me to get a Hebrew woman to take care of the baby for you?” “Yes.” Pharaoh's daughter answered. So the girl brought the baby’s mother, and the king’s daughter told her; “Take care of this child and I will pay you.”
The baby’s mother carried him home and took care of him. And when he was old enough, she took him to Pharaoh’s daughter, who adopted him. She named him Moses, because she said; “I pulled him out of the water.”
(Exodus 2:1-10 CEV)
So how’s that for an answer to faith?! Moses’ mother got to raise him anyway and got paid for it!
3. Mary
What a message Mary got from the angel of the Lord! Here she was, a virgin, unmarried but engaged, and an angel shows up telling her that not only is she going to have a baby, but that He is going to be the Son of God Most High! But instead of doubting the Word of the Lord, Mary told the angel; “Yes, I see it all now: I'm the Lord's maid, ready to serve. Let it be with me just as you say.” (Luke 1:26-38 The Message)
4. The Canaanite Mother
Let’s look at her in Matthew 15:21-18 in The Message:
Mat 15:21 From there Jesus took a trip to Tyre and Sidon.
Mat 15:22 They had hardly arrived when a Canaanite woman came down from the hills and pleaded, "Mercy, Master, Son of David! My daughter is cruelly afflicted by an evil spirit."
Mat 15:23 Jesus ignored her. The disciples came and complained, "Now she's bothering us. Would you please take care of her? She's driving us crazy."
Mat 15:24 Jesus refused, telling them, "I've got my hands full dealing with the lost sheep of Israel."
Mat 15:25 Then the woman came back to Jesus, went to her knees, and begged. "Master, help me."
Mat 15:26 He said, "It's not right to take bread out of children's mouths and throw it to dogs."
Mat 15:27 She was quick: "You're right, Master, but beggar dogs do get scraps from the master's table."
Mat 15:28 Jesus gave in. "Oh, woman, your faith is something else. What you want is what you get!" Right then her daughter became well.
Talk about being a “pit bull mama” this Canaanite mother was it! Canaanites were considered “dogs” to Jews, hence Jesus’ comment. But He didn’t make this comment out of disgust for this dear mother. He did it as lesson in faith to show His disciples what real faith was. He knew that this woman had it!
And this “pit bull mama” knew that Jesus knew she had it. And she was bound and determined that she wasn’t leaving Jesus until she got what she came to get from Him. We could learn a lot from this “pit bull mama!” She knew Jesus could heal her daughter and she was going to do it or else He’d see her everywhere He went!
5. Your Mother
First of all, she gave you life. Secondly, she raised you in the way you should go or you probably wouldn’t be reading this article. She fed you, helped with your homework, clothed you and took care of all during your childhood and maybe even beyond.
Proverbs 31 in The Message describes her this way:
Proverbs 31:15 She's up before dawn, preparing breakfast for her family and organizing her day.
Proverbs 31:27 She keeps an eye on everyone in her household, and keeps them all busy and productive.
So this Mother’s Day, we should do what Proverbs 31:28-31 The Message says we should do for our mother:
Proverbs 31:28 Her children respect and bless her; her husband joins in with words of praise:
Proverbs 31:29 "Many women have done wonderful things, but you've outclassed them all!"
Proverbs 31:30 Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades. The woman to be admired and praised is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-GOD.
Proverbs 31:31 Give her everything she deserves! Festoon her life with praises!
So Mother, you who honors the Lord, you deserve to be praised! You are among the greatest Moms who ever lived! We want to show you the respect and give you the praise you deserve for all you do and what you have done for us, your children, our whole lives!
While we know you would not take that which belongs to the Lord Jesus, you still deserve to be recognized for the things you have accomplished for Him and your family. I don’t think Jesus would mind a little going your way at all. In fact, I believe He would join us in honoring the things you do and have done.
So have a Happy and Blessed Mother’s Day!
