"O, it seemed like,
a holy place,
protected by Amazing Grace"
from the Eagles-Sad Cafe
There is a place in my heart where I hear the still small voice of the Lord. He gives me peace, love, and a joy that never ends. I try to keep it suited for Him, by keeping all evil things away from it, but this is always impossible, for this heart of mine is too often wandering away from Him. But when I am able to slow down enough to hear Him, a funny thing happens. The place I keep for Him starts to expand, and when it starts to expand, my heart can no longer contain it. It moves from my heart to the actions of my heart. It doesn't stop there either. It moves to my tongue, so that the words I hear Him saying, I can pass on to others.
I in no means am saying that I am without sin; ask Judy, my wife. There are days that I blow it big time. Anywhere from a cuss word to stretching the truth, to not being forthright with my neighbor (omission). Still, there is a Holy place in my heart for my Lord.
You too have a Holy place in your heart, if you allow it. The original Holy place was in a Temple made of gold and cedar. A thick curtain separated God from His people. Once a year, a priest entered the Holy of Holies to perform the yearly sacrifice for the people. With a rope tied around him, and bells attached to the rope, he would go about his duties. If at any time the bells stopped ringing, the other priest who were holding on to the rope would yank on it to drag their fellow priest out, who would be dead; for the Lord was offended by the offering. All of this ceased when the curtain was torn. When was the curtain torn? When the Lamb of God was slain. The moment Jesus said, "It is Finished" the curtain was torn top to bottom, indicating the sacrifice was made, and God opened up Heaven.
In the book of Jeremiah, the Lord tells His people: "This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the LORD. "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God...For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more." (Jer. 31: 33-34). When the curtain was torn at that moment, something wonderful happened. The law which was written on stone, was now written on our hearts. Our sins, all of them, if we confess them to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive them, and will remember them not. The Holy place in our hearts is where He resides for the believer and wants to resides in the rest of man.
We don't have to put on a dog and pony show for Him, just open up our hearts to Him and He will enter. The door knob to our hearts is on our side, we just have to open it a crack. He won't force His way in, but if you do let Him in, your life will be changed for the better.
