St. Luke 15: 11-24
“And he said, A certain man had two sons:
And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living.
And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.
And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want.
And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.
And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: an no man gave unto him.
And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants to my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.
But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:
For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.”
If you would notice, the father didn’t exchange words with his son. Although I’m sure it broke his heart, he did as his son asked and allowed him to go freely.
There are times we have to allow family members and friends to go the wrong way so that God can bring them back. When nothing you say or do gets through to them, this is the time that God has to step in and bring them back. It is out of your hands, and you must leave it in the hands of the Lord.
The father didn’t go looking for his son; he just waited, and after the son had gone through a terrible ordeal, he returned with greater wisdom, knowledge, dedication, and appreciation than he had before he left. If the father had not allowed him to go, he wouldn’t have ever known how good he really had it at home.
As the old saying goes, “You never miss the water until the well runs dry”. A lot of us lose out on the good things in life trying desperately to get more, when we already have what we need.
My parents waited for me. I just walked off from the life that they were trying to provide and went out into a world that just tore me down and destroyed me spiritually; but, one day, God hit me in my head, and I hurried back home. They never made me feel bad about leaving; they just welcomed me back with open arms. They knew that God had taught me a lesson that nothing could have said or done would have. They loved me enough to allow me to lose my way so that God could bring me into the life He had prepared for me. If it had not been for that mistake, I may not be where I am now spiritually. I had to learn how to pray and live right.
If you are faced with trying to persuade someone you love to do what is right in a situation, and he/she seems to just be tuning you out, just wait.
Unreceptive efforts to draw the person can very well push them farther away. Then, when God sends them back, accept them gracefully, lovingly and with much forgiveness and compassion as the father did with the prodigal son; for, when we stray, God accepts us back joyfully and faithfully.
Although there are times you see loved ones falling to the wayside,
There is no way that you can be direction to them; for, within them sin abides.
You may know the way quite well and clear,
And see that they are headed in a path that is dark, weary and drear,
But there are times that your words will do no good,
And you will feel that you can’t reach them as you should.
That’s the time that you shouldn’t get into a heated debate,
But it’s time to pray, watch, and just wait.
There may come a time when your spouse doesn’t accept the love and affection you give
And criticizes every aspect of the life you are trying to provide and live.
Although it seems that his heart is filled with disgust and hate,
This is the time to pray, watch, and just wait.
There may come a time when you can see that your child has gone astray
And he won’t accept anything you do or hear what you have to say.
Although you feel like he needs to be saved, healed and delivered before it’s too late,
It’s time to pray, watch, and just wait.
When it seems that your job is taking you nowhere fast,
And it seems that your patience with the supervisor and co-workers won’t last,
And the pay and benefits are nowhere near good, and far from great;
It’s time to pray, watch, and just wait.
When it seems as if every time you get a nickel you have to spend a dime
And to pay bills that are past due, you are running completely out of time,
Continue to be strong, trust God, and hold on to your faith;
For, this is the time to pray, watch, and just wait.
Although it may seem as if your prayers are not going through
And you feel like God is totally against you,
Trust that God loves you and is on time, never late,
But you’ve got to trust Him, and just wait.
Sometimes words, actions, and it seems prayer does no good,
And it seems your pleas aren’t being heard or understood,
Don’t give up; but be strong in your faith;
For, God will come through if you just wait.
It may very well seem like God is not coming through for you,
But waiting on God is the best thing to do;
For, He knew your situation before it ever began
And your trials and tribulations, He truly understands.
So, never think that God doesn’t hear you or that His arrival will come too late;
For, there is a reason that He wants you to just wait.
It takes time to fix some problems and a lot of going through,
But God always steps in to make a way for you.
