LETTING GO THE OLD
By Robert Schaetzle
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
Recently I was reminded: ‘You can’t put on the new unless you let go the old.’ Should I purchase a new pair of shoes, I can’t wear them unless I first take off the old worn out pair I have on.
Such it is, when we come to finding and accepting our ‘New Life’ purposed for us in Jesus. We’re tempted to not throw away those old shoes, as comfortable as they might feel.
Desire to keep something in the closet of our heart tempts us by forces of evil prompting, to not ‘let go,’ that we put on the new.
The apostle Paul proclaims; ‘I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.’ Galatians 2:20
The real test of courage and hope is don’t take off the new to put back on the old. Persevering through temptation is always before us. Regardless how many years we’ve been under the preeminence of God’s love to lead.
If we dedicate each day to our Lord, we can be reminded, ‘Greater is He that is in me…’ 1 John 4:4 Such that it becomes more the pattern to want to keep on with the new… and not be tempted to put back on the old.
Father, thank you for throwing away ‘the old’ in me that I always wear the new.
