“For I know in whom I have believed and am persuaded that
He is able to keep that which has been entrusted to me and
committed to Him until that day” (2 Tim 1:12)
In His rich mercy, God appointed Paul to be a messenger of Christ.
Most certainly, Paul traveled during dangerous times throughout
Lystra preaching the good news of salvation. During his journeys
Paul met Timothy and adopted him as a ‘son in the faith’.
Obviously, the strength of a genuine and faithful upbringing
positioned Timothy to spread the gospel. These holy characteristics
first existed in his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice
(2 Tim 1:5)
Certainly, we do not become less by giving more but we grow in
grace because of God’s enabling power. Further, labor for Christ is a
gift from God and can be handed down to the next generation as seen
in Timothy’s childhood.
By divine decree, Timothy was commissioned by Paul to carry the
‘good news’ to faithful men—men with proven spiritual character and
giftedness who would in turn pass on genuine truth to the following
generations (2 Timothy 2)
Basically, this process of spiritual reproduction, which began in the
early church, was meant to continue until the Lord returns.
“For the spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives
power, love and self-discipline” (2 Tim 1:7)
When heeded, assurance of God’s presence and the promise of His
grace is available to all believers. As we obey God’s Word, we are
accountable to others in spreading His good news.
As we pass the baton of faith others, we delegate stewardship and
proclaim the Gospel to all. In addition, we fulfill the command to
preach the Word, reprove, rebuke, exhort, give instruction and
declare the Gospel’s good news.
