The supper took place on the first day of Passover, or Unleavened Bread,
on the first day of the Festival, the disciples were gathered walking ahead.
“What preparations do you require us to do?” They asked Jesus Christ,
He replied, “Go into the city to a certain man that will suffice.”
Tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My appointed time is very near indeed,
I am going to celebrate with my disciples at your house so proceed.”
So, the disciples prepared food as Jesus had asked from the shelve,
while the evening drew closer Jesus reclined at the table with the Twelve.
And while they ate, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me,”
sad they said, “Not one of us will betray you we are your loyal devotee.”
“Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?” one of the disciples shockingly did plea?”
Jesus replied, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl will betray me.
“The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him in God’s plan,”
“But woe to that man who betrays me Jesus Christ the Son of Man!”
“It would be better for him sat at this table if he had not been born,”
“For it is written in my Fathers book, this to happen and I had to pre-warn.”
Then Judas, the one said, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi” head held low,
Jesus searched deeply into his eyes and heart and said: “You have said so.”
While they ate, Jesus took bread, gave thanks, and broke the bread saying,
“Take and eat; for this broken bread is a symbol of my body,”
then he took a cup, gave thanks to everybody, and blessed it to embody.
He gave the cup to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you with me,”
This is my blood of the covenant, poured out for many I do decree.”
“I tell you; I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on,
until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
When they had drunk and eaten, they prayed and sung a wonderful hymn,
they went out thoughtfully together to the Mount of Olives following Him.
Jesus revealed the exact significance of the two symbols the bread and wine,
unleavened bread in the scripture leaven symbolizes sin as they dine.
So, bread without yeast is representative of the living God,
for the word of God, is alive and active and is never ever flawed.
In the Jewish divided bag, matzoh’s are unified yet a picture of the Trinity,
the middle bread shows the Son, who left His Father’s side of the three.
He would go on and dwell among us and was broken for mankind in the room,
crucified, wrapped in a burial cloth, and hidden in a whitewashed tomb.
O victorious was our saviour after three days and three nights did arise,
He is the Life and resurrection our High Priest above the skies.
All power is His alone He is crowned at the Fathers right hand in glory,
The risen Christ forever ruling this is the glorious gospel story.
As we take Communion, we look back on what Christ did for us moreover,
and look forward to His return, and remember He is our beautiful Passover.
Jesus’ blood cleanses us of sin starting with Adam and Eve,
God required a blood sacrifice to cover transgressions and receive.
But this was just temporary the next offence required another sacrifice,
Jesus was God’s permanent answer to the problem and would have to suffice.
He took upon Himself all sin, past, present, and future events,
and died to pay the full penalty and leave us the legacy of covenants.
When a believer receives salvation, he is set apart to the Lord foremost,
His sin is forgiven, and He grants eternal life and the Holy Ghost.
But if at times we forget that we are His, we can give in to temptation,
The bread and the cup provide scope to remember our biblical education.
The Lord’s Supper is a picture and also a time to be in total communion.
We are also akin to the Lord who saved us to be focussed in total union.
Among the members of God’s family, we can find comfort and loving support,
just as the disciples and the early church did so as not to fall short.
Paul also reminds us that there is a time limit for this important ceremony.
He says, "you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes in testimony.”
From that first Lord's Supper in the upper room until He returns to earth,
we are to memorialise His death by the bread and wine to show His worth.
