Do you know my neighbor who lives down the street? His helping hands seem to touch all, Hearing the Master he answered the call.
Do you know my neighbor who lives down the street? If so, why not give him a great big treat,A big smile sweeping him off his feet.
“Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37-40)
An old parson once said, "I flipped a coin over an issue the other day, but it was a toss-up.” Is being a good neighbor yourself simply a tossup? I trust not.
Neighbors, we all have them. Some, we may secretly wish to give a swift kick to the posterior. Others we can’t keep from hugging when we meet. Some we wish would return those tools borrowed in years past. I could go on and on, but you get the picture. It’s our way of life here in Suburbia USA. However, our Creator God has other ideas.
In (Luke 10:26-37) a lawyer talks with Jesus about how he might inherit eternal life. This lawyer was well-versed in the Jewish law, so he asks Jesus “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus responds by giving him the parable of the Good Samaritan.
As our intro Scripture directs, we are to love others as ourselves. Not only that, but we should love others as God loves them.
So, I ask you. Are you a good Samaritan? Do you know your neighbors? Are you involved in helping your neighbors? Most importantly, from a spiritual standpoint, do you invite them to your church? Amen!
