A Doer of the Word becomes a Doer of the Work by Robert Schaetzle
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. James 1:22-24 NKJV
Being blessed in what we do is recognizing grace awakening. Throughout most of my working years, before I’d leave my car to enter the building where I spent much of my 40 years of public service, I would take a moment to ‘dedicate the day to the Lord.’
Doing so, I began to recognize a presence of authority was there to walk with me throughout the day. That presence was the abiding Holy Spirit and light from God’s word in my heart. His presence is our direction to the tasks before us. That presence is what turns into being a ’doer’ that brings God the honor.
Much of society looks only to edifying ‘this cause’ or ‘that cause.’ Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the hearts. Proverbs 21:2 What we are about every day as new creatures ‘in Him,’ is more than allowing ourself to be inhibited and influenced from the world around us. The passage from James declares; ‘we’re not to be as observing our natural face in a mirror, then forgetting what we looked like, or forget WHO we are living for.’ Father, lead us with each new day, recognizing being a doer of your word in us, is becoming a doer of your work. AMEN
