The Book of Isaiah in the Old Testament is a prophetic book written thousands of years ago. It has passages that are a perfect description of world conditions today. However, it also has many words of encouragement for those who are struggling with despair, hopelessness, and uncertainty.
“The steadfast of mind God will keep in perfect peace, because he trusts in Him. Trust in the Lord forever, for in God the Lord we have an everlasting rock” (26:3-4).
“In repentance and rest you shall be saved. In quietness and trust is your strength” (30:15).
“The Lord longs to be gracious to you, and therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. For the Lord is a God of justice, how blessed are those who long for Him”(30:18).
“Be my strength every morning, my salvation also in the time of distress...He shall be the stability of your times, a wealth of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge...”(33:2 & 6).
“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary...”(40:28-29).
“Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you. Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand”(41:10).
“I will hold you by the hand and watch over you”(42:6).
“Before Me there was no God formed, and there will be none after Me. I, even I, am the Lord, and there is no Savior besides Me”(43:10).
”I, even I, am the one who wipes away your transgressions for My own sake; I will not remember your sins”(43:25).
The spiritual truth taught in these verses is conditional upon turning to God for one’s hope, peace, security, in the midst of these difficult times.
