Leaders get lonely.

Though surrounded by others, they might have few intimate friends.

Consider the personal lives of presidents and kings.

Ponder the loneliness of many pastors.

Leaders carry the burdens of their people. They need friends.

“Now King Solomon was king over all Israel. These were his officials: Azariah the son of Zadok was the priest;Elihoreph and Ahijah, the sons of Shisha were secretaries; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder;  and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the army; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests; and Azariah the son of Nathan was over the deputies; and Zabud the son of Nathan, a priest, was the king’s friend (1 Kings 4:1-5 NASB).”

Jesus is King of Kings; He calls us friends!

“This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.  Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you. This I command you, that you love one another (John 15:12-17 NASB).”
