A Remedy for Hurts
One of the greatest inventions of all time, in my opinion, is the band-aid. This little strip of adhesive and gauze has been quite effective in protecting small wounds. It was invented as a result of a young man’s desire to aid his bride who was learning to cook. The earliest ones I remember were a rather plain pinkish color, but now they are available in all shades of flesh tones, a variety of bright colors, and a myriad of cartoon characters.
I remember thinking band-aids were the answer to every ‘owie’, even a cut that actually required a number of stitches. Band-aids have been used to not only protect wounds, but I have seen them used to protect floors, walls, table corners, and even make creative art projects.
Although many tears have been dried quickly by the application of a band-aid, there are times we acquire wounds and hurts that a band-aid cannot cure. In such times we must turn to Jesus. Psalm 103:3 assures us, the LORD “forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases”.
Jesus is the remedy for your emotional hurts as well. Song of Songs 2:4 refers to being covered with His ‘banner of love’. In Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians he expounds on what real love is. In 1 Corinthians 13:7 he writes, love “always protects.” What a wonderful thought—we are covered and protected by Christ’s love. That has got to be better than the best band-aid this world offers!
“Father, when I am hurting, physically or emotionally, help me to call upon Jesus. Please help me to rest in knowing that He has me covered with His protecting love. Amen.”
