Assignment: write a story without using the letter "N". All other Writing Challenge rules apply.
A small wood house caught Emma’s eye as she walked her regular path through her favorite woods. Surely her visit with Oma was too short for such a structure to be built! How much more had progressed, or rather relapsed, while she comforted Oma through Opa’s death?
Glad to see her favorite stump still existed beside the path, Emma sat to rest. Thoughts of wildlife habitats troubled her. Would the forest creatures she loved to watch as a kid survive all the destructive architecture she saw everywhere she looked?
As the rays of the celestial orb above warmed her, Emma’s eyes grew heavy. The basket she brought for berries fell from her lap. Emma dreamt that she was Goldilocks, her favorite story from childhood. As Baby Bear woke her, Emma’s desire to flee gave way to the urge to alert them of the threat to their home.
“Why are you baffled, Child?” Mama Bear’s voice smoothed what little fear hovered over Emma. “People have always multiplied their territory to take over that of the other creatures. God told them to cover the Earth, right?”
“Yes, but other creatures have disappeared forever because of it. Is that okay? Is it okay if Baby Bear starves because of this, this…” Tears watered Emma’s checks.
“There, There.” MamaBear wiped Emma’s cheek with her paw. “God provides for us as well. Fear of us paralyzes most people. That is our sword. But you are special.”
“How so?” Emma asked. Why would a bear say that? Or talk to her at all?
“I have watched you all my life. My mama also. She told me you were safe. We watched you help other creatures of the woods.” Mama Bear gave Emma’s basket to Baby Bear who trotted to the bushes.
“Advocates like you are our shield. Keep up the good fight for us. For our homes, our lives. But do so boldly. Fear will defeat you. Defeat your cause. Our cause.” Papa Bear added.
“You are a gift from God to us, just as these woods are a gift to you. Our cave is a ways up the hill, so we are safe for a while.” Baby Bear sat the full basket by Emma's feet.
“Yes, but some of the other creatures are closer. Advocate for them. Their swords are weaker. Fear is the most powerful.” Mama Bear added.
“Trespasser!” Shouted Papa Bear. The three bears raced up the path, out of sight.
“Emma! Emma!” her father’s voice woke Emma from her dream. “I forgot to tell you to stay out of the woods. A bear was sighted here lately.”
“Of course they have, Daddy. They have always lived here. This is their home.” Emma picked up her full basket of berries. Had Baby Bear really picked them for her? “Bears’ve always lived here. Always will. If I have my say.”
Emma hooked her arm with her daddy’s elbow. He would be her helper to advocate for the bears, rabbits, deer. For all the creatures she loved.

This is adorable. You did a great job. I believe you stayed away from that pesky letter, all while you told a powerful message. (Just my comment without that letter was hard to do, so super kudos!)
