Today’s Word from Elijah’s Cottage (Seems that is the name of where I live!)
This morning I was meditating on how we need to speak things that are not as though they are and this was what the Lord said. It went from me seeking the Lord to Him speaking to me. I believe it to be an encouragement for all.
He is the Great I AM. We are His. Made in His image to do as He does (Ephesians 5.1 5 Therefore become imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father]; 2 and walk continually in love [that is, value one another—practice empathy and compassion, unselfishly seeking the best for others], just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and sacrifice to God [slain for you, so that it became] a sweet fragrance.).
In faith, we speak the things that are not as though they ARE (Romans 4.17n17 (as it is written [in Scripture], “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the sight of Him in whom he believed, that is, God [who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist.). There is no need to waver as we speak. We should speak as if the thing already took place, calling what is not as though it is.
We have His peace (John 14.2727 Peace I leave with you; My [perfect] peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. [Let My perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge.]), and His authority; if we are obedient (Matthew 8. 9-119 For I also am a man subject to authority [of a higher rank], with soldiers subject to me; and I say to one, ‘Go!’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.’10 When Jesus heard this, He was amazed and said to those who were following Him, “I tell you truthfully, I have not found such great faith [as this] with anyone in Israel. 11 I say to you that many [Gentiles] will come from east and west, and will sit down [to feast at the table and enjoy God’s promises] with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven [because they accepted Me as Savior],). We ask in faith, believing. (James 1.6I). We do not have to be those who are tossed around by the wind because we can ask for wisdom and receive it (James 1.5If any of you lacks wisdom [to guide him through a decision or circumstance], he is to ask of [our benevolent] God, who gives to everyone generously and without rebuke or blame, and it will be given to him.). Our God is kind and looks after us in weakness and supplies all our need, including faith when we feel we are lacking (Philippians 4.1919 And my God will liberally supply (fill until full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.).
This is a year of alignment and you will call things into place. (Psalm 16.6 6 The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.) Hope will no longer be deferred or your heart remain sick. (Proverbs 13:12) Your faith has risen. (Hebrews 11.1 11 Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses]. 2 For by this [kind of] faith the [a]men of old gained [divine] approval.) and what you hoped for is already made perfect.)
In this year, what you travailed for is called forth. Your hope will not make you ashamed. My love is spread abroad in your heart (Romans 5.55 Such hope [in God’s promises] never disappoints us, because God’s love has been abundantly poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.). You will not be ashamed but are rising up on wings as eagles, to run and not be weary. (Isaiah 40.31But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him]
Will gain new strength and renew their power;
They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun];
They will run and not become weary,
They will walk and not grow tired.). You are up and running with renewed strength. Your portion is with Me, the Lord and not with the wicked. I have become the strength of your heart, your refuge, for your cries are already heard.
It is time to take my name to the captives, to the brokenhearted and those who mourn in Zion (Luke 4.18“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me (the Messiah),
Because He has anointed Me to preach the good news to the poor.
He has sent Me to announce release (pardon, forgiveness) to the captives,
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set free those who are oppressed (downtrodden, bruised, crushed by tragedy), because this is the acceptable year. )
This is a year of rejoicing when you come singing from Zion. (Zephaniah 3:14-20"Shout for joy, O Daughter of Zion!
Shout in triumph, O IsraRejoice, be in high spirits and glory with all your heart,O Daughter of Jerusalem [in that day]!
15The Lord has taken away the judgments against you;He has cleared away your enemies.
The King of Israel, even the Lord [Himself], is in your midst;
You will no longer fear disaster.), when my judgments are turned back.)"
You see my good in every situation. You know my might; you know my strength and that I save. The reproach is removed and you are singing in Zion with a taste and a foretaste of everlasting joy.
You are not crushed. They can try to crush and perplex you, they can throw despair at you, hard press you, but you are no longer troubled by what they do because you know what I do in every situation (2 Corinthians 4.8 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. 11 For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body. 12 So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.
13 It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.”[a] Since we have that same spirit of[b] faith, we also believe and therefore speak,
). I show myself present.
I bring hope to despair and never abandon you. The prison gates are torn open by your PRAYER and PRAISE of me (Acts 16: 25-2925 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose. 27 The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped. 28 But Paul shouted, “Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!”).
Mountains are moving as you speak to them. I have sent earthquakes to remove what could formerly not be shaken. (Psalm 16.8 I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, Ishallnotbemoved.)He is sending them to move the mountains. The Lord will shake the earth, but we will not be shaken (Iwaves roaring;).
You are brave (Psalm 46.2Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change
And though the mountains be shaken and slip into the heart of the seas,Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change
And though the mountains be shaken and slip into the heart of the seas,). You are strong (2 Corinthians 12.99 but He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you [My lovingkindness and My mercy are more than enough—always available—regardless of the situation]; for [My] power is being perfected [and is completed and shows itself most effectively] in [your] weakness.”Therefore, I will all the more gladly boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ [may completely enfold me and] may dwell in me.).
When you speak MY name, oil pours forth.(Song of Solomon 1:3 “Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.) You know I am wonderful and can speak of my wonder. You know I am Counsellor and can speak my counsel. You know I am Mighty and can allow me to fight the battle for you. 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
I am the EVERLASTING Prince of peace (Isaiah 9.6-7 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.) and you have it like no peace the world knows. Bowing to me, you will reign and prosper over every situation.
I increase my government of your heart. My zeal is in you and where Zeal for my house consumes I become all. Allow it first place, ME to be first love. Kindle your gifts afresh because in this new season I will be using them if you will allow me to use you.
RISE UP. You are brave. (2 Timothy. 1.77 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].). You have my LOVE, my power and my sound mind. Be ready in this season to see all I am doing. My plan as always for you is to prosper and not harm you (Jeremiah 29.11 11 For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.), and everything that happens has a reason, a time and a purpose under the heavens to further MY kingdom. (Ecclesiastes 3.1111 He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time. He has also planted eternity [a sense of divine purpose] in the human heart [a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God]—yet man cannot find out (comprehend, grasp) what God has done (His overall plan) from the beginning to the end).
Now we can move on to talk about mountain-moving faith.
Earthquake Shaking Faith that Moves Mountains
Every Christian in this town dies if that mountain doesn’t move!
The Caliph at Baudus and his priests saw a Bible told the Christians to move a mountain or die.
(Matthew 17.2020 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.) tells us with faith as small as a grain of mustard seed we can.
How many of us would try?
It was a life-threatening situation. Either the mountain moved or every Christian who refused to turn Muslim would die. They had ten days to prove their faith.
What would you do? Would you trust God or fall into despair? Is your faith more than a mustard seed?
I hope you begin as these Christians did and turn to prayer. They didn’t think the mountain would move, but they still prayed for the miracle.
Thank God! He used a one-eyed Christian shoemaker. The Bishops and priests prayed. Everyone prayed, but God used a humble man with no title.
He can also use you.
God can use you to pray earth-shaking prayers that earthquakes that make mountains move.
While the church prayed God told a particular Bishop to find a one-eyed cobbler.
Who was this cobbler? What sort of man was he?
He was upright, chaste, a regular worshipper, a tither and attended church. He also took his Bible seriously. When a woman asked him to repair her shoes and his thoughts became lustful, he plucked out his own eye. I am sure God didn’t mean him to do that, but one thing is sure, He believed the Word of God.
Possibly, to most people, he seemed overzealous, perhaps a little crazy. Yet, God used him.
Are you prepared for people to think you overzealous because you believe God’s Word?
Do you fit this checklist?
A regular churchgoer
Believes the words in the Bible to be God’s words
Then the faith to pray and move mountains is yours.
God showed the Bishop the cobbler because he was an obedient man and didn’t think his title made him the only one anointed enough to pray an important prayer. He didn’t think his position meant only He could have the anointing to for the miracle.
It takes a great leader to step aside and let God choose who does the task. To move this mountain God had not chosen the Bishop, but the cobbler.
Think about it. Everyone was praying. But God wanted the one-eyed cobbler to pray the mountain moving prayer.
The Clergy called for the one-eyed cobbler and asked him to pray. The cobbler didn’t think himself good enough to do so, but agreed.
He was a man in submission to God-given authority. He obeyed.
Over 100.000 Christians filled the church on the appointed day. They held a service, sang and wept then went in a great procession to the mountain. There they found the Caliph and all the Muslims ready to kill them. They expected the prayer to fail.
The Bishop blessed the cobbler. The cobbler threw himself before the cross and prayed.
“Blessed LORD GOD ALMIGHTY, I pray Thee by Thy goodness that Thou wilt grant this grace unto Thy people, insomuch that they perish not, nor Thy faith be cast down, nor abused nor flouted. Not that I am in the least worthy to prefer such request unto Thee; but for Thy great power and mercy I beseech Thee to hear this prayer from me Thy servant full of sin.”
The prayer of a righteous man works. (James 5.16. 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.)
It was a short prayer from the heart. The obedience of the Bishop and the cobbler worked together. They were both agreed that the mountain would move. They obeyed God, moved in obedience and agreed with God the mountain would move.
Imagine everyone’s amazement. The mountain. settled in the spot the Caliph had determined.
The result of that earthquake prayer was the mountain moved, and many Muslims became Christians. You can read this in The Travels of Marco Polo chapters 7-10.
Geologists could prove that something physical took place to make that mountain move. Did you know it takes an earthquake to move a mountain?
God knew when that mountain needed to move. For the mountain to move, Teutonic plates would have to crash together and cause a physical movement of the mountain. He planned an exact moment in time. The mountain moved, and many gave their lives to Christ.
When we need a mountain-moving prayer, God already planned the earthquake that will cause the mountain to slide into the sea. It is time to pray earth-shaking prayers that cause the mountains in your life to move.
Behind every move of the mountain, there is an earthquake. Behind every prayer need, there is a need for an earthquake shaking prayer. Yet God already planned the answer. God already planned to move your mountain.
And it doesn’t matter who you are. If you are a righteous follower of Jesus, then mountain moving faith is yours.
If your world has fallen apart, and it seems as if there is an earthquake in your life don’t fear. God is moving the mountain.
To understand the mountain, we need to know the nature of the earthquake.
Let’s look at where earthquakes in the Bible. This helps us understand the faith that moves mountains.
Earthquakes alter the earth’s structure. There is a great upheaval. The flood in Genesis 7-11was the result of an earthquake.
The flood wiped out the evil and allowed a new start.
When God spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, the mountain shook (Exodus 19.1818 And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.)
Your prayer on the mountain top means God causes a movement in the mountain. You are standing on the earthquake. God moves the mountain.
In Korah’s rebellion, the earth opened up and swallowed up the rebellious. Read Numbers 16.1-40 KJV and Numbers 16. 31-33 for the context. In Acts 16.26 there is an earthquake that shakes the prison walls and opens the prison doors. The prisoner’s chains break and the doors open.
In Revelations 6:12-14 the sixth seal opens. There is a huge earthquake. The sun turns black and the moon to blood. Revelations 8.5 describes what happens when the seventh seal is opened. The Saints pray in silence for half an hour and then an angel throws a censor to earth. There are voices, thunder, lightning and an earthquake. Revelations 11.13 describes a great earthquake where a tenth of the city falls, seven thousand men are killed and the rest give Glory to God. Revelations 11.19 also describes and earthquake.
Revelation 16.18 describes thunder, lightening and the biggest earthquake on earth since Adam and Eve fell.
Matthew 28.2 describes the great earthquake where the angel of the Lord descends from Heaven and rolls back the stone blocking the entrance to the tomb where Jesus lays
Psalm 60.2 Shows God causes the earth to tremble and shake. The psalmist asks God to heal the breaches.
Hebrews 12.26 God’s voice shakes the earth. He will do it one more time and shake both earth and heaven. This is a promise.
Ezekiel 38.19 In wrath and jealousy, God declares His intention to shake the land of Israel.
Isaiah 24.19 speaks of the earth as utterly broken down, the earth is dissolved and exceedingly moved.
Psalm 46.2 tells us not to fear though the earth is removed and the mountains fall into the sea.
Isaiah 13.13 tells us the burning anger and wrath of God shakes the heavens and moves the earth. The Lord of hosts is fiercely angry.
Here is a very interesting study on the Christchurch earthquakes in New Zealand. Faith after an Earthquake. Seven thousand men died in the earthquake in Revelations 11.13 but many more give God the Glory.
The earth is in a fallen state. Bad stuff happens geologically because of original sin. Adam and Eve didn’t just get thrown out of the garden of Eden, they set in motion a process whereby the world went into Freefall. The infrastructure that kept the world together took on a life of its own. It followed the laws of nature. God’s law was replaced with natural law.
Our earthquake prayers overcome the mountain of worldly normality. They trump the physical world.
Jesus shows us the way out but also warns us bad stuff will happen until He comes again in Glory. He tells us not to be afraid if we are in Him.
There is no getting around it. Physical and personal earthquakes will happen in this life. Yet, God has a purpose in everything. He wants to save us.
Leave aside your issues with why God allows disasters and let’s look at earthquakes in our own lives.
I am no geologist but understand that when Teutonic plates beneath a mountain collide, then the result is an earthquake which will move the mountain with disastrous results.
The plates form the mountains, but when they move the mountain moves. There may be landslides and flooding. To understand this better and where I am going in this study, read this article.
Cascading Down the Mountains
For a mountain to move, the earth needs to quake. Keep this thought in mind as we study earthquakes and mountains. Our key verse is one about mountains.
Our key verse today is Matthew 17.20. With faith, faith as small as a mustard seed, we can speak to a mountain, command it to move and it has to fall into the sea. Nothing is impossible.
We must move into the understanding that because we are in Him and speak with His authority, then we can command the earthquake that moves the mountain.
Let’s digress to understand the authority we are given in Christ. We are disciple-makers, commanded to go to all nations and baptise in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We are teachers of everything Jesus taught Matthew 28.19-20.
He promised us He is ALWAYS with us. We can say what Jesus said and do what Jesus did. The condition is we stay fully in Him John 15.7. If we live, move and have our being in Him all His authority is ours. Acts 17.28.
If it is in God’s will and we ask it, we can consider it done. Matthew 18.19. Agree with another Saint that something should be done, and it is already sorted. God is already on the case. Matthew 21.22 Believe and what you ask for in prayer happens. Mark 11.24 Speak it as though it is because it is already yours.
John 14.13 We have permission to do so. Jesus tells us we can ask in His name so the Father can glorify Him. He will do it because this is His reward from His Father. We partake in Jesus reward from the Father. He is sharing it with us. It is God’s will we show the fruit of His work in us and His salvation John 15.16. We can ask wisely, and if we lack the wisdom for what we need, then we can ask for it James 1.5-6. We are never stuck on how to pray because when we are we pray for wisdom and get it.
As we have already said, John 15.7 The condition is we stay fully in Him. His will is we pray continually, rejoicing 1 Thessalonians 5.16-18. The circumstances are immaterial.
Now we built up our faith, let’s return to earthquakes and mountains. You need an earthquake to make a mountain in your life move. You can speak that earthquake into existence.
When God wants to shake things He sends an earthquake to move the mountains.
Your prayer, believing, is an earthquake to move the mountain. It causes the Teutonic plates beneath the mountain to move and sends the situation into Freefall. You start a landslide that causes the earth to be flattened and a flood to cover the situation. The impossible mountain falls into the sea.
Speak the presence of the Lord into the situation and the Teutonic plates holding any situation together that doesn’t accord with His will collide Mark 11.23. Your situation melts like wax at the presence of the Lord. Psalm 97.5.
Which leads to the question, how do we get the faith that enables us to speak an earthquake into a situation and cause a mountain to fall into the sea?
The Bible has the answer. Faith comes by listening to the Word of God. We cannot have faith if we are not prepared to listen to it. Nor can we have faith if we are not prepared to hear and meditate on what we are listening to Romans 10.17.
There is a formula we need to follow. Listen to God, hear Him, obey Him and faith will increase. So having the faith for the earthquake to move you have to start with listening.
How after all, can you have faith about a situation without first hearing from God what He needs to happen to send the earthquake. Earthquake prayers come out of hearing God about a situation and being convinced God has spoken.
And that, dear Saint, is where many of us stop. We are so eager to pray we tell Him all about it, but never give Him the chance to reply.
To get into earthquake prayer mode, we need to learn to listen, hear and obey. Copyright Jacky Hughes January 2020 Scripture links are to Bibegateway.com
