“What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the Jews?” Pilate asked them. “Crucify him!” they shouted. “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!” Mark 15:12-14 NIV
Pilate was now in a position he wished not to be in, the sentencing of Jesus. He decided to ask the crowd what should be done. Of course, the Jewish leaders had further stirred the crowd, asking them to demand that Jesus be crucified. Pilate attempted to reason with the crowd, stating that there was no cause to warrant death. This just infuriated the crowd even more, causing them to shout all the louder that Jesus must be crucified.
What do we do when we are in a situation requiring the defense of Jesus? Do we back away, concerned for our own safety, or do we proclaim the truth, regardless of the potential consequences to ourselves? We must not be ashamed of the Lord or speaking the truth about Him. He made the ultimate sacrifice on our behalf, and we must let others know about Him. Many souls need to hear the truth that they might come to the Lord and be saved.
