A bowl of stew

that there be no immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birth right for a single meal. Hebrews 12:16 NASB

Birthright is a privilege one has from birth. In the Old testament we find that Esau’s birthright was linked to an inheritance and a blessing but he traded it for a bowl of stew.

A bowl of stew is really anything that satisfies a strong desire in a moment of time. It doesn’t satisfy you for a long period of time and the satisfaction gained can easily be forgotten. All the world really offers us is a bowl of stew. The riches, fame, success, the sense of belonging to the world system, qualifications etc. are all just a bowl of stew. You never get satisfied and you keep craving for more.

As Christians we are children of God and that affords as a birthright through Christ who is our salvation and the first born of God. We are joint heirs with Christ through His grace and faith in Him (Romans 8:17). Included in our rights is to reign with Christ and thus exercise authority of every power and principality being also blessed with every spiritual blessing in Heavenly places. Righteousness, peace and joy are also included in our rights. We have been chosen to live a life of peace, joy, righteousness, dominion, truth and freedom, bearing spiritual fruits and exercising spiritual gifts. Exercising these rights mean that we have to walk away from the lusts of the world because they are not from our Father.

But so often we trade our rights for the fading riches of the world. Let us not imitate Esau for it might cost us just as it did in his case.

Thanks for your share. Interesting to think of earthly desires as a bowl of stew. God bless you!
