Wholeheartedly Follow God
“But My servant Caleb possesses a different spirit and follows me fully. I will bring him and his seed into the land to possess it” (Num 14:24 NIV)
Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) sparred half-heartedly when he began a new boxing career. Additionally, he met a pretty lady worth fighting for and surely his heart dripped with joy. Bolstered by his new girlfriend and a trustworthy Trainer, Rocky began competing among champions. Donning a cocky attitude, each knockout round added another dose of determination. These challenging encounters reinforced his conquering spirit. Along with the ‘never-give-up’ mantra and a ‘can-do-swagger,’ Rocky won his lady friend and a first Championship.
Who knows? Perhaps Rocky read Caleb’s success story in the Bible. If so, he discovered that Caleb purposed within himself to wholeheartedly follow God. Out of pure love for God, Caleb became stronger and more determined, declaring:
“At eighty-five years of age, I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out. I am vigorous to fight battles now as I was then” (Josh 14:11)
After rescuing his people from Egyptian bondage, God issued a perfect promise. In detail, an inheritance of a plentiful land, flowing with milk and honey. Yet, the land had to be taken by force from Canaanite enemies. Upon hearing that requirement, many Israelites became terrified and refused to conquer their promised haven of rest.
However, Caleb envisioned the adversaries as ‘grasshoppers’ and did not let fear grip his throat. Together, Joshua and Caleb embraced faith rather than terror.
“Let us go up at once and take possession, for we will overcome” (Num 13:30).
In closing, all Believers who follow Christ with their whole hearts will eternally abide with the saints, who are cheering us upward to Heavens Promised Land.
“I saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of Heaven from God”
