Encourage One Another
Brent grabbed his lunch and headed for the break room. He saw Doug who was in his small group.
“Hey, how’re ya doin’,” Doug greeted. “Wasn’t that discussion on the return of Christ exciting last night?”
Brent grimaced. “Well, I have reservations about it. Like, how long has the world been waiting for the return of Christ? The disciples were expecting him back in the first century, and here it is two thousand years later.”
“I hear ya’.” Doug took a swallow of diet soda. “I’ve been looking at that list of verses that the Pastor passed out. There were countless prophesies about the birth of Jesus....you know, Isaiah, Micah, Daniel....all through the Old Testament. Although they occurred hundreds of years before the birth of Christ, they were fulfilled just as prophesied. The return of Jesus has been promised by angels, the apostles, Paul, and Jesus, himself.” If the prophesies concerning Christ’s birth came true, shouldn’t we expect the prophesies about his return to come true? We are seeing so much that was prophesied happening today.”
Doug continued. “Some day.....possibly some day soon, what Paul talked about in 1 Thessalonians is going to happen. ‘The Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.’ Paul then adds, ‘Therefore encourage each other with these words.’”
“Thanks for your advice. That motivates me to start looking at those Scriptures myself.”
