Many people in America will gather around picnic tables with family and friends and have little understanding of what had occurred on this day in 1776.
On that day Americans declared their independence and then began the battle that would last years to win victory over harsh rule and became truly liberated from British control.
This was known as the revolutionary war.
Many of us are disgusted with our government, the many levels of deception and over control by party lines and the infighting among Americans due to agendas that only further divide and bring uncivil arguments and ugliness streaming out of persons.
Many persons are unable to get a grip, letting their anger lash out at others and destroy relationships and cumulatively add to the already hostile atmosphere brewing of the many complicated issues and complex problems circulating our country.
"AB Simpson said, I once saw a picture of the Constitution of the United States, very skillfully engraved in copper plate, so that when you looked at it closely it was nothing more than a piece of writing, but when you looked at it at a distance, it was the face of George Washington.
The face shone out in the shading of the letters at a little distance, and I saw the person, not the words, nor the ideas; and I thought, “‘That is the way to look at the Scriptures and understand the thoughts of God, to see in them the face of love, shining through and through; not ideas, nor doctrines, but Jesus Himself as the Life and Source and sustaining Presence of all our life.”
God is the author and creator of a new narrative bringing in a new revolution. Christ love is a revolutionary movement awakening new life and a birthing a new way of living out this life.
We can participate in entering into joining in this story of Father's desired love as he carves a new story into our hearts, or we can continue listening to the narrative and stories being told by the world.
We don't have to listen to the loudest voices or the clamor of division, strife, oppression, and hatred. We don't have to be negatively swayed by the often-cold reception we receive from other Christians and we don't have to be unduly tainted by a world gone mad.
We can choose to listen to God's narrative and tune into His still quiet voice who leads us in the paths of righteousness, sustaining us in His story that shows a way forward containing peace and joy.
When we can learn to not focus on the issues and refuse to let those loud negative voices infiltrate our steadiness, peace and joy, but instead continually turn our focused attentions and affections to Christ and Christ alone, hearing His narrative, we become empowered, strengthened and wisely discerning.
We can reject those whose ideology is one of entrenched anger, hatred and whose aim is division, separation and alienation. We can refuse to get caught up in the twisted dogma others want to put out each day.
We can choose to participate in God's divine kingdom story learning to live in this radical Christ movement in order to build bridges in our communities --fostering and nurturing relationships as a new narrative; God's divine love story in action.
Obtaining a Christ redemptive vision --- gives godly perspective to view persons and life through the lens of Holy Spirit’s love filter.
We then rise daily to see the many opportunities to help build bridges, pave pathways of peace and engage with other persons from the source of all life; the radical life changing love from Christ.
In a day and age when many have vacated institutional churches in the face of hypocrisy, lies, manipulated deception, misuse of power and wrongly applied control at work ---- we who are centered in God’s truth do not lose hope, as we realize it is people who skew God's love and it is people who misunderstand the truth of scriptures.
In spite of how we see our country changing in moral decline and in spite of how the institutional churches are dwindling in abiding in love and God's truth and in spite of how party lines are influencing people's minds with anger, we as individuals have the power to intentionally choose what we make a matter of our attentions.
We can actively purpose each day to abide in Christ’s life and willingly listen to His voice, openly seeing opportunities and places we can shine light in our world.
The freedom and independence we win from our own self ruling and being negatively impacted and influenced by all that is 'wrong' or all the ills we see in our world ---- stems as a result of our liberty and personal relationship in Christ.
Christ is the only one and the only power who brings forth truth, liberty and freedom in the midst of suffering, pain and difficulties.
Real freedom comes when our thoughts become untangled from viewing all that is wrong and we walk in the new love in Christ as He sets us free from pessimistic gloomy attitudes ---- ushering us into the radical forgiving grace of the Jesus's message, becoming God-conscious in our thoughts and inner attitudes.
The real freedom we celebrate today is the liberation Christ offers in teaching us what the gospel message is all about - truth centered in love.
Christ love is all about relating to and with one another from a sincere attitude, a genuine desire to lift up, edify, support and encourage one another ---- deeply interconnected with others in Holy Spirit reliance.
The true liberation and freedom we can access and step into today, is encountering Christ’s most holy authentic and real love.
Jesus said: “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:3
It is in seeking and desiring Christ who breaks chains of oppression, releases mindsets from religious death, divisiveness and anger, birthing into us in His new revolutionary way of being; love.
The hope we know as Christians is that Christ becomes our vision, guiding and directing us in relating to other persons from His life as our source of love.
We spread light and love in our world in how we treat other persons. We bring hope to others in how we view them. We bring truth to others in how we perceive them; God's created loved ones - whether they know it or not.
Today is more than remembering American independence from foreign ruling and control.
Today and each day I am mindful of my own freedom in Christ who liberated me from self-rule, self-control and self-independence. Today I remember whose I am and who I am in Christ - whose presence freed me from my own selfishness ---- calling me to live to a higher standard, clothing my inner world in His radical life forgiving message of God’s merciful love.
It is not in our perfection, our strength or our knowing we become Christ love.
We become Christ love in acknowledging our weaknesses, in recognizing our failings and in admitting our inability. We become God's Heart in a foreign land full of division, hate, judgment and condemnation, when we stop denying the power of Christ and learn to step into His revolutionary grace giving us supernatural divine ability to be His love.
God's grace births attentive caring, compassion, tenderness, gentleness, truthfulness, honesty, and lays core foundation principles in relational interactions that are carried out by in and by His love.
God’s life in us ---- refreshes, renews, restores and aides those who come to Him - again and again and again ----receiving; mercy, forgiveness, truth and divine, pure, holy, love.
We choose liberty in The Christ way of being or we choose death in the world's way.
We are not a people without any hope, for we each have been given power, authority and Holy Spirit ability to choose what we think about, dwell upon and make a matter of our focus and attentions.
Today, may we choose to be the new revolutionaries of this new life in Christ.
It is Christ who births hope, liberty, freedom and truth ---- delivering, rescuing and freeing us from our own selfish, self-centered, stubborn and often destructive mindsets --- bearing witness to His divine resurrection power ---- always at work inside us.
God is the author and originator in creating His narrative of redemption, reconciliation, restoration, and reconciling those of us who have encountered His love. God ushers us into his radical kingdom way of being ---- giving us a new way to live, new values to incorporate, and godly hearts to relate from and with others. We have a new revolution to declare in refusing to listen or pay attention to all those voices clamoring to oppress and all those people shouting the language of hate.
Friends we have a new revolution to fight in battling the world's narrative that skews God’s truth and Christ’s love. This my friends is how we move forward in being the change in our world; one life at a time, one heart at a time, one person at a time.
This new revolution is to bring this radical life gifting message of forgiveness, mercy and Father’s intimate love of Christ into our everyday world, joining and participatingin His redemptive story.
May we become intentionally focused on bearing this distinct call in sharing God’s divine love as carriers of this radical gospel message that ignites hope; freeing and liberating minds, bodies and souls by the purest and holiests of loves.
