There is No Darkness Living in Jesus by Robert Schaetzle
“If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night,” Even the darkness is not dark to You, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You.” Psalm 139:11-12 NASB
One can define living for ‘self’ as living in darkness, with no real light to lead our way. King David, when he penned this Psalm, was certain Who he would follow. The world around us is filled so… with dark shadows of despair, anger, deceit and turmoil. Living within the reasoning of our fleshly desire does not really produce a path of light.
David’s son Solomon admonished from proverbs to ‘lean not on our own understanding, nor be wise in our own eyes….’ There’s good counsel and learning obedience to a higher authority than ourselves.
“How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You.” Psalm 139: 17-18
In my senior years I tend to wake more at night than when I was younger. Sometimes I feel as when our Lord would spend all night up on a hillside, listening to the Father speak to him.
Even for Jesus, to be with the Father all night in prayer, there was no darkness within his soul.
“And He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” Romans 8:27
When you can’t sleep at night, consider… Who’s listening to your heart?
