“Be dressed and ready for service, and keep your lamps burning like men waiting for their Master’s return from the wedding banquet, so that when He comes and knocks they can immediately open the door. It will be good for the servants whose Master finds them serving when He comes.” Luke 12:35-37
GOD has a specific call for all of His children to seek out, find and then fulfill. Jeremiah 29:11 says that: “He knows the plans that HE has for us—they are plans to prosper us and never to harm us.” That plan, if carried out, is meant not only to fulfill His great purpose “through us” here on earth, but also so that every promise that He made “to us” along the way is released “upon us” so that our lives are enriched and others are blessed in the process. But many people are not working their plan. There is a consequence for not seeking and knowing the will of GOD for our lives.
It is imperative that we know the plan that GOD has for us specifically. It is ok to be encouraged by what GOD is doing in the lives of others and it is right to be concerned about what HE is doing on a global scale. But it is not wise to do all of that without having ever concerned ourselves with the plan that HE has for us.
We are to know GOD—not just know about Him. We are to walk with GOD in relationship and should not leave it to others to tell us how HE is. So many Christians live this way and settle for just a knowledge “of Him” when they could have a deep and enduring; intimate relationship “with Him.” It is written: “The Lord confides in those who fear Him, HE makes His covenant known to them” (Psalm 25: 14). HE will make Himself known to those who take the time to “know Him.” In the development of that relationship HE will begin to show Himself to us and will begin to reveal to us all the things that we will do for Him, all the promises that HE desires to bestow upon us, and then; as our relationship in Him matures, HE will open the eyes of our understanding and will begin to share His plans with us on a global scale.
Jesus likened His people to those who are diligent servants who are everyday working their plan in preparation for the specific purpose for which they have been prepared, so that at the appointed time they may be “participants” in GOD’S global plan rather than just “spectators” sitting on the sidelines watching it all from the outside looking in because they never took the time to allow Him to prepare them. They never took an active part in the Jeremiah 29:11 plan that GOD had ordained for them before they ever were—a plan that HE designed specifically for them, and is as unique to them, as their own finger print.
It is those who have “readied themselves” who are prepared and unashamed to open the door “immediately” for their Master when He comes knocking (Luke 12:36). Those who have not, will ashamedly shove their unfinished business under a rug and scurry around trying to bring to order years and years of personal disorder when they hear their Master knocking. They think the Master can be fooled by what He sees on the outside. But, “The Lord does not see as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Sam. 16:7).
Jesus said this: “You must also be ready for the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him.”(Luke 12:40) We must be ready in every way for our Master’s arrival. “The servant who knows his Master’s will, and does not get ready, or does not do what his Master wants, will be beaten with many blows; “For from everyone to whom much is given—of him much is required and the one to whom much is committed—of him they will ask the more.” (Luke 12:47-48)
We all have been entrusted with the secret things of GOD (1 Cor. 4:1) and have a divine plan written on our hearts. GOD seeks to establish His kingdom here on earth as it has been established in heaven. That is the holy mandate given to us by The Living GOD who invites us into fellowship with Himself as a Father and also gives us a vital role in His divine plan to redeem back to Himself all that was lost through Adam’s disobedience. And then He displays His splendor through us as we fulfill His purpose, so that we receive glory in the process of glorifying Him—what a Guy!
“To whom much is given much will be required, and to the one with whom much is committed—of him The Master will ask all the more!” (Luke 12:48)
It is no small thing to be called of GOD. One should take note that HE takes note in how we respond. Therefore, the plan He has for us should not be taken lightly. Those who accept His invitation are the ones who become “the chosen.” We all have the potential—it became inherent in us when we were made a new creation—but not everyone will choose to be the chosen because there is a great price to pay. In fact, it will likely cost all that you are, and have, and love to be prepared for the plan that HE placed in your heart to perform once you have been prepared. But in reality, it is such a small price to pay for the One who gave it all for us; “For our light and momentary afflictions work out for us an Eternal Glory that far outweighs them all! (2 Cor. 14:17)
