God’s promises never fails and finds its fulfillment in them who believe.
Elisabeth filled with utmost joy yet again declares this blessed truth.
“Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.” Luke 1:45 NKJV
What God has said, He will do and nothing and no one can ever thwart His plan, however if unbelief reigns our hearts it will act as a hindrance for God’s plan to be fulfilled and our prayers will remain unanswered.
The Lord has warned us to be careful about this sin of unbelief which voids all ours and God efforts for our blessedness.
“But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” James 1:6-8 (NKJV)
Being double minded towards God’s goodness and providence is actually being single minded in disbelieving Him.
Fear, our human intellect towards worldly rationality, depressing voices and a sinful life are some of the main ingredients contributing to our disbelief. We need to overcome them by the power and providence of the Lord.
Standing near the tomb of Lazarus this is what Jesus said to Martha…
“Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?”” John 11:40 NKJV
And the world witnessed Lazarus being raised from the dead.
When Jesus was ministering and teaching in His home town of Nazareth, this is how the people reacted…
“When He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?” So they were offended at Him.”
Matthew 13:54-57 NKJV
And what was the result?..
“Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.”
Matthew 13:58 NKJV
The people of Nazareth depended on their human intellect to govern them and declared judgements on Jesus, thus ultimately blocking the paths of their own blessedness.
When I see many mainline churches the origins of which were done by great revivalists and mighty men whom God has used, yet now they have become like dead churches, the Spirit of God has been curbed down by too much of familiarity and intellect, let’s pray that may the Lord revive them, may they not just be harping always on their great origins, but also experience the power within them and glorify God.
How can we overcome this unbelief?
The passage given in Mark 9:14-29 tells us about the healing of a young boy who was troubled by an evil spirit of muteness, the disciples tried to remove it, yet could not succeed and later Jesus healed the young boy, later when queried as to why they were not able to heal the young boy, this is what the Lord said…
So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayerand fasting.” Mark 9:29 NKJV
We need to pray and fast before the Lord to receive the power to believe and to root out every seed of unbelief from our lives.
Great blessedness awaiteth them who would believe in God’s love and goodness, thus let’s believe always and ever.
“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”
C. S. Lewis
“With God in charge, I believe everything will work out for the best in the end.”
“Our belief in God is not blind faith. Belief is having a firm conviction something is true, not hoping it's true.”
