In Your Presence…..
The presence of the Lord fills the place with delight and joy, when Mary the mother of Jesus went to meet Elisabeth, her very presence sent a joyous leap to John the Baptist who was then still in his mother’s womb and this is what Elisabeth described happened to her…
“For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.” Luke 1:44 NKJV
The above experience stands true for them who love God and seek His presence always in their lives…
“In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalms 16:11 NKJV
Yet a sad fact was mentioned by Jesus about how He was received…
“He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.” John 1:11 NKJV
Why did this happen? Mary went to her own and she was received with the utmost joy, then why was Jesus not received in the same manner by those whom He called ‘His own’?
The Bible has an answer to this….
“For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.” John 3:20 NKJV
The Lord was resented and rejected by everyone who were still in their sins and did not desire to come out and His presence was a welcome to everyone who loved purity and holiness and even by those who were under the yoke of sin, yet desired a new life.
We too go through the same experiences in life, we love God, His presence and the fellowship of His people when are hearts are yearning for Him yet on the contrary we seek to escape from His glory when we are in sin and desire to continue in it.
Do we not see this rebellion in the younger generation? Do we not see many elders who foolishly choose to continue in their rebellion to God? O! How would this change? How would these precious souls come near to God?
The Bible has a wonderful account of the story of the ‘Prodigal Son’, and this was the turning point in his life…
“But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!” Luke 15:17 NKJV
This ‘coming to oneself’ is what is required today, when the self truly recognizes that without God I am nothing and I cannot live without His presence, when the self would recognize that Christ is my all in all, the very breath of my Spirit and thus without His presence and His life in me I am literally dying each day.
This ‘coming to self’ may not happen expect through earnest prayer, when God would visit the lost souls and help them recognize the depth of their vanity.
We do read about many revivals when God through the fervent and earnest prayers of some have revived nations.
Many of us need this revival in us, in our families, our community and our country.
“Let’s start to pray,
And may God make the way,
So that everyone will one day say,
Without God I cannot live a moment of a day”
Yes! His presence should fill us with joy, for that’s what He is ‘The source of all goodness’. May God change us to receive Him joyfully always.
“Peace comes not from the absence of trouble, but from the presence of God.”
“The most holy and important practice in the spiritual life is the presence of God - that is, every moment to take great pleasure that God is with you.”
“Nothing in or of this world measures up to the simple pleasure of experiencing the presence of God.”
Aiden Wilson Tozer
“Believe that when you come into the presence of God you can have all you came for. You can take it away, and you can use it, for all the power of God is at your disposal in response to your faith.”
