‘Now at the time of the incense offering, the whole assembly of the people was praying outside.’ Luke 1: 10 (NRSV)

On a particular day, as Zechariah was serving as priest before God, he was chosen to enter the sanctuary of the Lord and offer incense. As he was carrying out his responsibilities inside the inner sanctuary, the men of God stood outside and prayed.

Zechariah’s work for the Lord was covered in prayer. As we step out into our work places each day, whatever context that may look like for each one of us, we need to be covered in prayer by others. Who has our back? Who can we depend upon to pray for us when work is a challenge or when it is going well and we have much to be thankful for?

Our prayers become the powerhouse that keeps us strong as overcomers in the Lord and moves the hand of God. On a particular day, when Zechariah’s friends prayed outside the sanctuary, God’s angel visited this priest inside. The angel brought great news to him and Zechariah’s life was changed from that moment onwards.

United, faith-filled prayers will accomplish much. Let’s invite others to pray for us as we serve the Lord and ensure that we are doing the same for them.

‘Heavenly Father, may my prayers be like a sweet fragrance to you rising up to your throne room, bringing you delight. Help me to uphold those who work for your Kingdom in prayer, and may they be strengthened in power and purpose through the prayers I offer to you. Amen.’
