The Three R’s — Bonnie Kronberger
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High, will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 119:1
Dusk was settling in as I drove home from the nursing facility. A disquieting sight greeted me—my garage door wide open, inviting any unscrupulous character to walk right into my house. How could I have forgotten to use the remote and lower the door?
It had only been a week since my husband fell and ended up in a nursing home. Even though my husband couldn’t take care of me anymore because of Alzheimer’s disease, his presence in the home had been a comfort to me.
“Lord, go before me,” I whispered, entering the house. I walked from room to room, speaking out in a loud voice, “Holy Spirit, you are welcome in this place. In the name of Jesus Christ with all authority given to His name, evil is banished from this place.”
Opening each closet, I continued to invoke the power of Jesus. How had I gone through this experience without quaking with fear, alone and helpless in the face of possible danger?
It was because of the three R’s—releasing, receiving, resting. I had recently begun practicing these techniques as I fellowshipped with the Lord. Turning my palms downward, I would pray to the Lord, confessing my fears and anxieties, all the stuff that weighed heavy on my heart.
Next I’d turn my palms up, telling Him I received in faith all the love and peace He offered me through Christ’s redeeming grace and mercy—accepting His offer to carry my burdens.
Finally, I was ready to rest in His promises. Having released my worries, I could receive the offer of His peace. Now I could rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
