Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. For his mercy endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods. For his mercy endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords. For his mercy endures forever. Psalm 136:1-3 (EHV)
Today I have chosen a reading from the Evangelical Heritage Version, which speaks of God’s mercy enduring forever. If God’s mercy were not enduring, if it was not forever, we would be in serious trouble. We live in the flesh and are thus susceptible to sin. We who belong to Christ are no longer enslaved by sin, yet we do at times fall short and do succumb to the desires of the flesh. Yet our God’s mercy endures forever. With a repentant heart we can approach Him, asking for reconciliation through the blood shed by Jesus Christ on our behalf.
The above mentioned version speaks of God’s love in creation. It also speaks of His love as being redeeming and continuing. Love is wonderful, but the love which God has for us is beyond our ability to totally comprehend. Take a moment to read this version of scripture. It is beautiful.
Have you taken time yet today to thank God for all He has done for you? Give thanks to the one who provides us with all we need.
