Called to Work
2 Thessalonians 3:10- For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
Ephesians 4:28-Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good that he may have to give to him that needeth.
I think all able bodied non-disabled individuals should work inside or outside the home or both. Working inside the home could include tasks such as cooking, ironing, washing dishes, sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpets, and washing and drying clothes. Working outside the home could include jobs from babysitting to being a nurse. People should also work within the church. For bible says in James 2: verse 17 that faith without works is dead. Faith worketh by works. Works inside the church include everything from ushering, singing in the choir, pastoring, being a part of the worship team, prophesying, being a secretary, being a treasurer, being a deacon, being an assistant pastor, cleaning the church, church janitor, being a choir director, and being a public speaker. We all have a part to play within the body of the church. Every member in the body of the church has a specific function. There is plenty of work to be done in the church. There is enough work for everybody to participate in. Romans 12: verses 4-6. Verse 4- For as we have many members in one body and all members have not the same office: 5-So we being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another -6-Having then gifts differing according to the grace given to us […] Galatians 5: verse 6 states that Faith worketh by love. Love is the major work that we should be doing as Christians. In John 13: verse 34, Jesus left us this commandment that we should love one another as he has loved us. James 2: verses 14-17- 14- What doth it profit my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him? 15- If a brother or sister be naked and destitute of daily food, 16-and one of you say unto them Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; not withstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body: what doth it profit. 17-Even so faith if it hath not works is dead being alone. Our work should be about taking care of the needs of others. Our labor of love should be helping to meet the needs of other people. In James 2: verse 22, it says seest thou how faith wrought with his works and by works faith was made perfect. Here are some verses about giving to others in need.
1 John 3:17- But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
Galatians 6: 2-Bear ye one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Hebrews 13:16- But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
Acts 2: 44-45- And all that believed were together, and had all things in common; 45-And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
Philippians 2:4- Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
1 Corinthians 13: 1-3- 1- Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal.
2- And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge: and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3-And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned and have not charity, it profiteth me mothing.
Works without love or charity is nothing. Faith, love, and works go together. They work hand in hand. Without the others they alone are nothing.
