“Because I live, you also will live.” (John 14:19b NIV)
Life is a precious and gracious gift from God and we must take sufficient care to live our lives in His plan and purpose. Before God created man in His own image and likeness, He created everything that man would need: oxygen, food, water, shade, habitat, the list is long. God did not create man for fun but for fellowship. He longs earnestly to have a deep personal relationship with us without which His purpose about us can never be accomplished. Now do not think that God wants us to have a close personal relationship with Him just because He wants to fulfill something great through us. The great purposes for which God wants to use us are all for our everlasting joy and authentic satisfaction.
In the verse we read above, we see Christ’s declaration about His divine, original, self-existent life’s central supremacy over ours. He is not saying, “If you deny me you will not get food and water to survive”, but He strongly strengthens us to surrender ourselves to Him so that we can live our lives in obedience to God’s Word. “One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” (Deuteronomy 8:3b NRSV)
Yes, God’s Word is our spiritual food. How does a Christian feed on God’s Word? By memorizing it? By studying it? Oh yes, these are helpful factors, but one can only benefit from the biblical portion he may have just read by applying that portion into his practical life or in simple terms, obedience is the method to chew and digest the word of God. “Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; Indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart.” (Psalm 119:34 NKJV)
“These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” (John 15:11 ESV) “But these are written so that you will put your faith in Jesus as the Messiah and the Son of God. If you have faith in him, you will have true life.” (John 20:31 CEV) “Your word is a lamp to guide me and a light for my path.” (Psalm 119:105 TEV) All these verses vividly explain or make clear the age old question about how to live a meaningful life. Yes! It is totally impossible to attain meaning in life without understanding the meaning of life which is found only in the Bible. Yes, when you read God’s Word deep from your heart, you receive fullness of joy, true life and guidance. This is no ordinary natural lifestyle, this is the revelation of the grace of God upon us who are worthless so as to become worthy and useful for our Maker and Potter who gives us strength to live life genuinely.
Yes, and why did Jesus said that we live only because of Him? Because He is the One who fulfilled the Father’s will through the most difficult path, thus becoming able to help us in obeying His commands. “---for without Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5 NKJV) Are you living the abundant life or are you still chasing after worldly materials? Make a strong decision now to give first place to live for Christ who died for you. For only those who are dead to sin and alive in Christ will resurrect when the trumpet of the Lord shall sound. This is the time for you to decide.
