Anything that gets more of our attention than God's spiritual agenda (which by the way does include family matters); can lure us into distractions, temptation and even idolatry.
Get off the computers and put down the smart cell phones if you really want to clear your head. Limit your time on these devices if you really want to improve the quality of your life. Too much of these devices create distraction, stress and anxiety. They are essentially artificial (intelligence) stimuli; not intended to replace interactions with real people, nature and most of all God.
It’s a great thing to be able to set your course that you not be caught in the undercurrents of life. This takes focus and the ability to recognize and turn from distractions. But we all encounter road bumps that rob us of the ability to be decisive. Sometimes it’s just age, stress or a preoccupation with unexpected issues. I think the dominate cause for this in my life could be simply the ageing process and external pressures.
But when our strength wanes, His strength reigns; if we would but seek Him. "In weakness is His strength made perfect." It's so good to know that the Lord is there in times of confusion and indecisiveness, if we would but ask for His guidance and counsel. "We have not because we ask not."
I walked through the grocery store the other day as I've done a thousand times before; but I drew a complete blank as to what to prepare for my meal that evening (not the first time mind you); but just fresh out of ideas. Even favorite dishes did not appeal to me at that moment.
So I asked the Lord and He put me on track for the most delicious stew I'd had in a long time. It was stocked with potatoes and onions, nutrient vegetables and seasonings and even a fresh bunch of kale. This succulent pot of stew lasted 3 days and I ate heartily.
God in Heaven is our great counselor. Sure, what should I cook today is a small matter but nothing about our lives is too small for God's attention. I enjoy asking small things of the Lord because typically He answers quickly; “Where are my keys Lord?” It’s like having an ongoing conversation with Him throughout the day. I ask, and He answers me. Oh what joy!
But He is also expedient in dangerous situations as many of you know. The problem is, some people panic in moments of potential danger or trouble. If we would but ask, “He is a very present help in times of trouble.”
Don't be discouraged when weightier matters take more time to clarify and manifest solutions. Learn to wait upon the Lord and know that, "He is working all things out for your good."
Psalm 102:2
Hide not Thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline Thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily.
