You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt has lost its saltiness it is no longer good for anything except to be trampled underfoot.
Matthew 5:13 NASB
Our ability to taste exists in two forms. The first is our taste for food. The second is our taste for God.
On our tongues are tiny taste buds, also knows as taste receptors. These tiny structures allow us to detect the five elements of taste perception: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami (savory). Through the combination of these taste elements we are able to detect “flavors”. If our taste buds stop working there is no longer any joy in eating.
If our taste for our Creator Lord diminishes or goes away, we are the most to be pitied. Hopefully we will strive to regain that sense of taste. We must remember that our Father is long suffering, loving, and merciful. We should reach out to Jesus for His loving and healing mercy. We should reach out to friends and neighbors seeking their help in restoring our faith. We must pray unceasingly for a rebirth into the loving arms of our God. We must realize that God never turns His back on us. He just patiently waits for our return. He is our Heavenly Father waiting for us, His prodigal children, to smarten up and come home to Him
Dear Father, please forgive us when we stray from you. Lead us back into your loving arms and renew our saltiness for You.. Amen.
