When Filipinos voted for Duterte, I knew our country will have turbulent times. The man curses almost anything and anyone on this planet for every little issue or conflict. At his election campaign last year, he joked about regretting that he was not the first to rape a foreign missionary (who was later killed in a jail riot). Then at news conferences, he admitted that he is a supporter of the Communist Left, the CPP/NPA, a rebel group that has been trying to grab power since the time of President Magsaysay in the 1950's. Filipinos voted for this man whose moral capability and character clearly shows he is godless. He has no faith in God and boasts arrogantly that he can kill as many as he can and flood Manila Bay with their dead bodies. He has ordered the killing of almost 3,790 suspected drug users and pushers, all without the benefit of a court trial. And to think that the Philippines does not have a death penalty law. The problem is not with Duterte, the problem is with the Filipinos. The Philippines is not a Christian nation, it is a Catholic nation. While Filipinos pride themselves with religion, rituals, and observance of feasts of as many saints as it has streets, they lack the moral compass that the Word of God gives.
We have had Catholic leaders since the time of President Quezon, and all of them were corrupt perhaps with the exception of Quezon and Magsaysay.
Because religion blinds Filipinos, they cannot see the truth and can never measure character with the wisdom that God gives. We do not need perfect leaders, we need leaders who FEAR God.
Change cannot come with mere change of leaders. Change has to come from us - from the inside. That is the change only faith in Christ can bring about. This is what Filipinos need to do, to put Christ at the center of their lives and surrender to His will and His Word.
"Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, and the people He has chosen for His own inheritance." Psalm 33:12)
