Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. Ephesians 5:26-28 NIV
Gentlemen, the submission of your wife to you does not come without a major responsibility for you. Husbands are to love their wives just as Christ loved the church. Christ constantly sacrificed for the church. He constantly gave, without demanding. Husbands are to do the same for their wives as Christ did for the church. To say that this is not an easy endeavor would be an understatement. Get rid of that idea in your head, men, that “now things are going to be my way.” That type of an attitude will certainly not be pleasing to the Lord.
A husband is to love his wife with all that is in him. He must have her betterment as a Christian, and a woman, in his mind and heart. Men must constantly be in prayer with the Lord on behalf of their wives, and how to love and nurture them.
Just providing financially for the wife is not nearly enough. A woman needs much more than financial security. Men must understand that women are different from men, not only physically, but in the way they think, and often in what is most important to them. Being a good Christian husband is not easy at all, any many do not succeed as they wish. Men, pray always that the Lord will help you to be the husband that God intends for you. Seek to learn from your shortcomings through the indwelling Spirit. Always ask God for help.
