I am a firm believer that one of the many reason’s Christ came two this earth was to set us free from man-made restrictive religious practices. We do Him a great disservice when we tie ourselves to any ritual and ceremony which is unscriptural and ‘religious denomination’ specific. Every church has their ‘rules and regulations’ of worship to which they religiously adhere and frown upon any deviation of practice. In my own church we do not have a rigid way to worship God. Yes there is order in the service, but unlike many churches which read from a specific book of worship, keeping to a standard script each week, I love the way my chosen church allows for individual freedom of expression in worship. Jesus died for our freedom to choose, therefore he does not want us to wrestle with our conscience every time we do something against church rules. Of course there are some rules that should never be broken - these are Biblical ones - the 10 Commandments. However, keeping them in a rigid, legalistic way will never get us into heaven. I can keep everyone, but without love, I might as well forget all of them. We know there will be many in these last days, who think they are sure of a place in the kingdom of God! Those who have kept all the rules of their church. Those who have cast out demons in Christ’s name. Yet Jesus tells us the fate of many of these individuals in Matthew 7:21-23 NKJV.
