The VoiceJohn 10 : 27
I read about a married man and woman that after much travail, finally achieved their consummate goal. Thanks to The Lord the beautiful young wife was surely pregnant. When it was extremely clear that the baby was imminent they quickly gathered the necessities and headed for the hospital. The husband, excited beyond words, had her hand as they entered emergency and were quickly led to the delivery area. The contractions were extremely close and the soon to be mother was taken into the delivery room, clearly on the cusp of giving birth. As the wife settled into the birth position the child began to emerge. The excited husband grabbed his iPad and began to film the miraculous procedure. The wife, while enduring the discomfort of childbirth, was quickly and clearly unenthused by the husbands decision to film this triumphant moment. Her look at him could not have been clearer. But the incredulity of the moment was not lost on the husband and he continued to film even as the baby was finally born. While the mother felt her first moments of relief, the birth of the child stirred mayhem in the room. The newborn girl wasn't breathing. All of a sudden the atmosphere in the room turned on a dime. A singular tone that spoke for the little child's heartbeat and her simultaneous incapacity to breath, sent the room into a frenzy. Doctors arrived from other wards quickly briefed and entirely on duty. Nurses grabbed for gloves and tried to be wherever they might be most needed. Everyone of them prayed in earnest for the baby to survive.
As the room began to complicate the father was yelled to by one of the doctors: "I think you might want to turn the camera off!" The baby was clearly unresponsive. Filming such a heartbreaking moment, such a personal loss, was to accentuate the ensuing pain. There's no quick fix when it comes to those we've won then lost never mind the ones we lose without them ever having had a chance.
As the father observed the mayhem in the room an indescribable urgency filled him. The doctors and the $100 s of thousands in medical devices were not going to save his girl. In desperation he yelled out to his wife....'Tell her to breathe!!! Yours is the only voice she knows and will recognize. Tell her she has to breathe!... She'll recognize your voice! "
Less than a minute later the baby was aware and breathing. The sound she'd become accustomed to in her mothers womb was the only sound that mattered and the only voice she recognized.
* *. *. As Believers God is always there, desperate for us to listen when He speaks. For in His Word the absolute Truth is told. The steps to reconciliation and fullness in life reside in Him. His Word is a map to lead us. His love an amazing gift to comfort and direct us. To hear God's voice we must belong to God. Jesus said, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me” (John 10:27). As long as we continue hearing The Lords voice He is able to accomplish amazing things.... Even in us.
