To love God means to do His will. When you have genuine and devoted love for God, you will have a clear understanding of His will for you in all the arenas and areas of your life on earth. Purpose: Where does it start? Purpose originates in God’s loving promise of His unchangeable plan concerning us. When you believe and rely in the plan of God, you get a clear direction for your life.
But how do we understand God’s plans for us as each individual? The Bible clearly teaches us that He designed us for His pleasure and purpose. So, the first step is to find God’s will and deny our self-desires. When we totally submit ourselves to Him, moment by moment will He lead us, and our self- desires will be burnt as we continue obeying Him, growing in the image of His Son, our inner man developing through grace. This is the starting step.
Then comes the step of denying the thought that we are able ourselves. Instead we should rely on God’s grace to strengthen and enable us to do His will. This is as crucial as the respiratory system is necessary for breathing. You may think you are potent and able enough, but remember you have a Creator who is the only one able to bring the best out of you. Allow Him to change and or repair and or improve your potentials. Lean not on your own worthiness. You are precious, and God knows your pricelessness.
When we submit in this way, two obstacles may come: If God’s grace is being poured out upon my limited potential and if I am walking submissively to His will, then why am I not able to focus on His provisional leading? Why do I trust in things for God’s plan to be accomplished? From where can I get that confident faith? When can I stop worrying unnecessarily and start believing that God who started His work in me will bring it to completion? It is so easy to submit in the beginning. But when the progress continues, hardships and troubles will come, making us lose our faith and trust in a God who is truly concerned. We may even start doubting whether we had made a mistake.
The answer for this is the empowerment of God’s Spirit. Ask Him to encourage, strengthen and empower you. When your will-power fails, God’s grace and strength will make you more than conquerors.
Then next obstacle is evident in our pride, when we feel that we are something. Many have fallen in the pride-trap once they start focusing on their own achievements and the way God uses them. Their failure to focus on God’s work and God’s glory rather than on seeing the work as their own, made them vulnerable to self-pride. To be protected from such harm, we should consider that this life is not ours, and whatever we do is for the glory of God, it is His plan that we are carrying out and not ours.
