Marriage is getting to have a sleepover with your best friend, every single night of the week. Christie Cook
Tim McGraw - My Best Friend https://youtu.be/rRJ0lpu6XaU
I am just sitting here this morning counting my many blessings. What an amazing 26 years it has been since that magical night God placed this beautiful redhead into my life. When I met Janice I had only been saved for a few months and had NO Christian friends at the time. But God knew exactly how to remedy that, and sent me the most perfect Angel, who became the best friend I have ever known. Since the beginning we just fit so perfectly together, and it’s really strange because we have so little in common. Growing up, she had lived in one house her entire life. With my dad being a musician, we moved more times than I can remember. She was raised in Church; youth group, church choir, GA’s, Bible drills, and vacation bible school. Me, I went to two vacation bible schools when I was 10 years old, and in my teens, visited occasionally at one of my cousin’s churches, but that was it. Even after we got together, there were just so many things that could have kept us apart. I’m sure if we were to fill out one of those online dating profiles that are so popular these days, our names would never match. But we didn’t need some computer software to tell us who our perfect match was; we had the greatest Match Maker that ever existed. As He was knitting us together in our mother’s wombs, He was making something perfect, and it would one day be, us together. Separately, we were two lost souls, who had come out of broken relationships when we finally met. But, after God had the opportunity to bring us together, two broken halves become one beautiful whole. Proverbs 18:22 says, “The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favor from the LORD.” That certainly explains why I have lived such an amazing life, and am so looking forward to the many blessings the Lord has in store for our future.
I can tell you there is nothing more amazing than being with someone you can just be yourself with. Pretending to be someone you are not, just so they will like you can be exhausting. But, when God’s brings two people together there is no need for pretending; we can just be our silly selves, and know our friend is OK with who we are. So this morning I want to speak to you young ladies out there. Take the time to get to know someone before you jump into a relationship with them. Trust me when I say, you want to marry your best friend; because, for most of us, there will come a day when our looks will begin to fade, and if you married them because of their good looks, and that buffed up physique, that likely is not going to last. But, when we marry our best friend, looks really don’t matter. Just look on Facebook, at all the beautiful women over 40. Now, look at who they are married to. I can promise you, he probably didn’t have that pot belly and balding head of hair when they first met. But they are still together because looks are not nearly as important as spending your life with someone who puts a smile on your face each and every day; someone you can just lay around the house with no make-up on, sweats, and an old t-shirt, and he can still look at you like you’re the most beautiful person in the world. That, young ladies, is the man you want to marry. Also, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your physical beauty will also fade with time. Having children can be a beautiful thing, but it can also leave that once trim figure, not quite so slim anymore; and the aging process is simply inevitable. So, you want to marry someone who can look past the physical and see the amazing you, which is the one thing that never has to change with time.
Fawn Weaver has a quote that says, “Marriage: Love is the reason. Lifelong friendship is the gift. Kindness is the cause. Til’ death do us part is the length.” While it is true that about half of the marriages in the United States end in divorce, and on the surface that can seem scary for any couple considering marriage. But, that number would decrease significantly if you were to ask, how many were best friends when they married. People marry for so many wrong reasons, but if you marry your best friend, who you are madly in love with, that my friends is where the magic happens. That is why my advice has always been, quit looking, and stop trying to meet that perfect person. God already has them picked out, and WILL put them in your path, when He knows you are both ready. Janice and I actually lived in the same apartments when I was first divorced. In fact, her apartment was right behind mine. Yet, for months I don’t remember ever seeing her. She remembers seeing me and the boys at the pool, but God did not allow us to meet. Why? Because, my heart was not ready; God was still working on me. But, a couple years later, after I gave my life to Him, He gave me the most wonderful gift that a man could ever ask for; and as a result, I have had an amazing life. Just always remember, if we will simply be patient, and allow God to do the match-making, we never have to worry about our marriages failing, and the only thing that can cause it to end is, til’ death do us part. But then again, that is not really an end is it? Because, when a match is made in Heaven, it is there it will last for eternity.
From my heart to yours!
