Do not underestimate yourself by comparing yourself with others. It’s our differences that make us unique & Beautiful. Robert Tew
Casting Crowns - Who Am I http://youtu.be/cjhxOv9YDag
Being ourselves; that is something most of us really struggle with. We live in a society where we are told we are supposed to act and look a certain way; else we will not be part of the “cool” crowd. That desire to fit in, especially for those who were considered outcasts in high school; once we become adults, we figure, now that we are all grown up, we can recreate ourselves into someone people will like. Many even take on completely different identities, just to try to become these new, improved versions of themselves. But I really like the advice Bill Gates gave when he said, “Don't compare yourself with anyone in this world...if you do so, you are insulting yourself.” One thing I have learned is that it’s ok to be different. God uniquely created us for a purpose, and once we discover that purpose, life can be amazing, regardless of how others treat us. We are not defined by the way we are treated by others; the haters are going to hate, it is just in their DNA. We are defined by walking in our God-given destiny, and when our lives bring Him glory, that is ALL that really matters. Would I like to be more outgoing, have more friends, and be known as the guy everyone wants to hang around? Sometimes, but then I would not be me. That is not how God created me, and then I would be trying to walk in someone else’s shoes, instead of living my own amazing life. You see, God has given me EVERYTHING I need. He has given me a beautiful, loving wife with a heart of gold, who loves me, just the way I am; He has given me a wonderful, loving family, who accepts me, quirkiness and all; and He has given me you, all you wonderful children of God, who I can share my heart with. I am not sure what more a man could ask for. I am different for sure, but I am truly blessed, and whether you've realized it yet or not, so are you! So let’s stop wasting time trying to become some alternate version of ourselves, and celebrate our uniqueness by walking in the divine destiny God has prepared just for us.
From my heart to yours!
