Tough and Soft

JESUS is a complex personality: balanced in perfection, incomprehensible to humanity, unchanging in the midst of circumstances or during the passage of time, possessing an intellect that defies human definition, with a heart larger than the known universe.

The basic character traits of Holiness and Agape Love are the dam from which the rest of HIS character flows. JESUS is that perfect balance of ‘tough’ and ‘soft;’ the hand of steel that is covered in velvet. JESUS balances the requirements of GOD’s character with the Love of GOD’s heart. We are held to a holy, strict standard, but given compassion and forgiveness when we fail.

JESUS is independent of all of humanity’s standards which we seek to force upon HIM. HIS judgments are perfect and righteous. HE is not cluttered in mind with attempts at manipulation of laws and court reviews. HE owns the courts. HE owns the standards of behavior. We bend to HIS will.

Foremost in the mind of JESUS is compassion. Seeing the wretched examples of the affects of sin, HIS hearts breaks and HE seeks to remedy the current spiritual disabilities. Rather than using the steel hand to crush, JESUS reaches out with the velvet of tenderness to lift up and forgive humanities failures.

“Be of good cheer,” HE says to each one of us. “Take courage in the fact that I am here.” JESUS is the ultimate in mercy and empathy. HIS first thought is restoration, not judgment. “Who condemns you? Neither do I.” While the rest of the world demands payment for our sin, keeping us crushed with guilt, held in the misery of our own making; JESUS seeks to remove us from our sin, set our feet on HIS firm foundation, leading us into the abundant life of HIS grace.

JESUS sees the deepest parts of our hearts, where the slime, darkness and decomposing odors linger. HE sees this and knows what we can be. JESUS works to cleanse and repair our lives. JESUS lifts us from our particular situation of sin laden misery and brings the life changing hope and power of HIS love to bear. We are born anew. We are perfected. We are given chance after chance to live the requirements HE set for this great life we have.
