1 Corinthians 4:
14 I do not write these things to shame you, but as my beloved children I warn you. 15 For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. 16 Therefore I urge you, imitate me.
Grace and peace be unto you my Brothers and Sisters,
The Apostle Paul writes and urges the Corinthian church to imitate him. How many of us can utter those words to the saints in our churches, the babes that are in Christ or even the sinners that are in the world? Imitate me....Two powerful words, not everyone should be imitated and the question that I want to pose to you is what would the world look like if everyone imitated you? The word imitate means to follow or endeavor to follow as a model or example. Certainly, Paul was not sinless, perfect or flawless but he was in a position that he could urge others to imitate him! In verse 17 Paul states that he is sending Timothy who would remind them of his ways in Christ. Have you walked in Christ in such a way that you could send someone to demonstrate your walk in Christ? The focus of my thoughts are in verse 20 where it declares," For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.
,
My Brothers and My Sisters, Paul could say imitate me because he was walking in Kingdom authority! It was not just mere words that Paul was asking the Corinthian church to imitate, it was the power of the Kingdom of God, which is God present rein in Christ through the lives of the believers which is backed up by the power of the Holy Ghost!
Many of us imitate religion, the way we dress, the way we speak and the way we conduct our selves in church settings. However; the Kingdom of God is not word or mere formalities but it is the power of God. There is no need to imitate how someone preaches, no need to imitate how someone sings or how someone prays, religion imitates those things very well!
However; when Paul talks about imitate me, he is talking about walking in Kingdom power and authority. From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.(Matthew 11:12). Paul wants the believers to imitate the power he walked in when he declared,"7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. 8 We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— 10 always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.(2 Corinthians 4:7-9). Imitate this!
Brother Ed
