The Return of the Memories

Author requests article critique
As I walked memories began flooding back of the time before all this began.
I remembered the house we shared. The children. THE CHILDREN. Where were they now? What has happened to them?
There was Elsie. A sweet young lady… Always so joyful and kind. She always thought the best of everyone. She was so trusting. Then Jonathan. So clear headed and he saw what was coming. He could see and understand it. He alone of all of us was ready when it came. He was always so practical. Had a stash of things ready just in case. We didn’t understand.
Jacob. Jacob could handle himself. Strong and courageous. Not as practical as his brother nor trusting as his sister. But strong and capable nonetheless.
Where are they all now? What has happened? How did this all happen??
I just can’t remember it all yet. I walked on farther and farther allowing the memories to slowly come back. Warmth from the movement began to warm my body for the first time in a long time. A very long time I slowly realize. I realize that it’s been a long time since I could understand and could make a choice on my own. What has happened to me??
The memories of the children slowly, gingerly start to come back. It’s like they are scared to come back. But I know I need to remember. I have to allow them to come back. I will them to come back. The children. So sweet and loving. Such a happy time. We were a family. I haven’t thought of that word I such a long time. A Family. Such warmth comes with that word. It’s like the ice covering my heart is being melted slowly as I ponder just that word. Family. Family.
I had a husband. WE had children. We had a FAMILY. We had a home. We had a vehicle to drive. We had gardens and a dog. We were happy.
They took them away. They gave some reason that didn’t make sense and they took them away. The authorities had paperwork and police officers and the courts on their side. They took them away. Where we could never find out. We tried searching for them. We tried asking the courts. Petitions, lawyers. It didn’t matter. We never saw them again.
