I was thinking of the tiny evergreen tree that long ago grew outside our house, that was the only thing outside that had Christmas lights put on it each Christmas season...and it reminds me of our love.

In the beginning, that tree was so small that it only took one string of tiny colored lights to cover it all...just as our love started out small, and as we grew to know one another, we added little colored lights to it...lots of little blue lights for the hope that now grew in my heart, red ones for the love that was beginning to shine...white for the joy I felt when I heard your voice...green for all the grace and peace God placed in our hearts...and the little tree grew.

During the rest of the year, the little tree was just there...but all the time, though it seemed unnoticed, the branches were growing, the trunk was taller...just as through the year, as we fell in love and married, our love grew...it was all small things, growing the branches longer and stronger, our foundation in Jesus was like the trunk getting taller to support the new growth...and when time came again to decorate the little tree...there was such surprise and joy at how much it had grown...and that year it took two strands of colored lights to cover that tree.

Just as our love has grown with each day...and we don't wait for just one time a year to decorate it...for every day we add our sparkling little lights to it.... each day we add on something new...pink lights for joy, golden ones for laughter...all the while adding more of the ones we hold from before...and, oh, what a beautiful sight to see, that tree sparkling in the night...and such joy fills my heart to know that with us, Christmas comes all thru the year!
